This role provides academic, social-emotional, and career guidance to students through individual counseling, small group sessions, and classroom guidance activities. The counselor collaborates with educators, administrators, families, and community partners to support student success, address barriers to learning, and promote a safe, welcoming school climate. Typical responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, developing counseling plans, responding to student crises, and making appropriate referrals to support services. The counselor also assists with career exploration, postsecondary planning, and the implementation of district-wide initiatives that enhance student well-being and achievement.Qualifications Demonstrated skills in Student Counseling and Counseling to support academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development.Foundational knowledge in Psychology to understand child and adolescent development and learning processes.Experience in Mental Health support, including identifying concerns, providing short-term interventions, and coordinating referrals.Competence in Career Counseling to guide students in exploring postsecondary options and planning career pathways.Relevant state certification or licensure as a School Counselor, or eligibility to obtain it in Missouri.Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field preferred.Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff.Ability to maintain confidentiality, use sound judgment, and manage sensitive situations with care and professionalism.Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive practices in a diverse school community.
