Role Description The School Counselor is a full-time, on-site role located in Terlingua, TX, providing comprehensive counseling services to students across grade levels. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting individually and in small groups with students to address academic, social, emotional, and career development needs. The School Counselor collaborates with teachers, families, and administrators to develop and implement student support plans, interventions, and referrals to community resources when appropriate. The role involves conducting guidance lessons, supporting positive school climate initiatives, and assisting with crisis response and mental health support. The School Counselor also maintains accurate records, participates in meetings, and contributes to campus-wide efforts that align with the district’s vision of inspiring lifelong learners.QualificationsDemonstrated skills in student counseling and counseling to support academic, social, and emotional development.Experience or training in career counseling to help students explore postsecondary options and set realistic goals.Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and community partners to support student success.Strong communication, active listening, and conflict-resolution skills.Master’s degree in school counseling, counseling, psychology, or a related field (or progress toward completion), as required by state regulations.Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor, or eligibility to obtain it within a specified timeframe.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of student support.Organizational skills and professional ethics in maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information.
