This position supports field operations by evaluating drilling fluid performance, analyzing fluid samples, troubleshooting fluid-related issues, and delivering timely technical recommendations while ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.The function provides technical support to internal stakeholders, and occasionally external customers. Key responsibilities include performing laboratory testing and bench-scale evaluations, preparing technical reports, interpreting laboratory and field data, collaborating with cross-functional teams, interfacing with management, and developing practical solutions to optimize drilling fluid performance.This role is critical in ensuring drilling fluid systems perform effectively, safely, and economically while supporting successful drilling operations and customer satisfaction.ResponsibilitiesOperates safely in the laboratory environment. Knowledgeable of the chemical hygiene plan and the current laboratory safety standards.Perform routine and advanced laboratory testing on water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based drilling fluid systems.Analyze drilling fluid samples and record test results in accordance with company procedures and API standards.Prepare clear, accurate and timely laboratory reports, technical summaries and recommendations for field operations and technical teams.Support field personnel by interpreting laboratory results, providing technical recommendations and assisting with drilling fluid troubleshooting and performance optimization.Troubleshoot drilling fluid issues and assist in identifying corrective actions.Participates in laboratory investigations, product evaluations, and technical projects supporting field operations and customer requirements. Contribute to technical papers, conference presentations, and publications as appropriate.Performs calibration, routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Maintains inventory of chemicals and lab supplies, and follows good laboratory housekeeping practices.Adheres to QMS (Quality Management System) requirements and contributes ideas for continuous improvement of laboratory practices. Organizes and maintains the laboratory for effective experimentation.Updates Management on project status, opportunities, challenges, etc.Participates in industry sponsored organizations to promote Newpark’s goals.Execution of various projects, processes and/or initiatives supporting identified strategic direction.Non-Essential ResponsibilitiesTrains new lab personnelFamiliar with operation of coreflood test equipmentQualificationsEducation/Work Experience RequirementsMinimum Education Required:Bachelor's Degree in Science/Chemistry Field or educational equivalentExperience:5+ years or oilfield laboratory or drilling fluids experience preferredLicense/Certificates:Drivers LicenseAbility to obtain US Passport for international travel preferredDrilling Fluids Certification preferredSuccess Factors:Legally authorized to work full-time in the United States with strong English communication skills (written, verbal, and reading).Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems, including email and internet-based tools.Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, and employees at all organizational levels.Possesses solid organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently.Knowledge of drilling fluid composition, design, application, and testing practices; experience in drilling fluids, oilfield laboratory operations, or field services preferred.Experience operating drilling fluids laboratory equipment, including but not limited to Grace HTHP rheometers, retort, lubricity tester, Linear Swell Meter (LSM), Particle size analyzer (PSA), HPHT fluid loss, PPT and slot testing apparatus.Committed to safety, quality, continuous improvement, innovation, and serving as a positive role model within the laboratory and field services team.We are an equal opportunity employer.
