The Second Engineer will support the Chief Engineer in managing the vessel’s engine room operations, ensuring safe and efficient functioning of all propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Daily responsibilities include overseeing maintenance and repair activities, monitoring fuel and lubricants, maintaining engine room logs, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and maritime regulations. The role involves supervising technical crew, coordinating planned maintenance schedules, responding to machinery breakdowns, and collaborating with shore-based technical teams as required. The Second Engineer is expected to promote a strong safety culture, uphold Synergy’s standards for crew wellbeing, and contribute to continuous improvement of operational performance.Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Marine Operations and Maritime skills, with hands-on experience in engine room management and vessel propulsion systems.Candidates should possess solid knowledge of STCW requirements and international maritime regulations, including safety, environmental, and compliance standards.Candidates should possess practical Maintenance & Repair skills, including troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems and managing planned maintenance routines.Candidates should possess experience with Boat and shipboard machinery operations, including auxiliary systems and deck–engine coordination.Valid Second Engineer (or equivalent) certificate of competency, meeting STCW convention requirements.Experience sailing in a similar rank on commercial vessels such as tankers, bulk carriers, or container ships.Strong focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and adherence to company procedures and international standards.Effective communication, teamwork, and leadership skills to supervise and mentor junior engineering staff.Ability to work in multicultural crews and adapt to dynamic operational environments.
