Senior Accountant - Property DevelopmentBroad accounting, tax compliance and commercial project exposureWork closely with an experienced Financial Controller and Development TeamEstablished Melbourne property development group This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Accountant who wants to move beyond traditional financial reporting and develop broader commercial experience within property development. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will take responsibility for the accounting and financial reporting of multiple project entities across a portfolio of greenfield land developments. These projects operate through a variety of companies, trusts and partnerships, providing interesting technical exposure to complex structures and inter-entity transactions. You will also provide guidance and technical support to Project Accountants, ensuring the accuracy and quality of financial information across the portfolio. Alongside the core accounting responsibilities, you will work closely with the Financial Controller and Development Team on project cash-flows, funding requirements, loan draw-downs and feasibility analysis. Key responsibilitiesOversee month-end accounting and financial reporting across multiple project entitiesReview journals, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and project accounting transactionsReview BAS preparation and coordinate year-end financial statements and income tax returns with external advisersProvide technical guidance and support to Project AccountantsMonitor project cash-flows, funding requirements and cost-to-complete positionsCoordinate capital calls and monthly loan drawdownsMaintain and review project feasibilities and underlying assumptionsReview lot settlement accounting, revenue recognition and project costsPartner with the Development Team to improve the accuracy of project reporting and forecastsProvide analysis and recommendations to the Financial Controller on project performance and emerging financial risks About youYou will be a CA or CPA-qualified accountant with strong technical accounting, financial reporting and compliance experience. You will be comfortable managing multiple entities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Experience within property development, construction or project accounting would be highly regarded. Candidates from professional practice with significant property clients may also be considered if they can demonstrate the ability to transition into a hands-on commercial environment. You will also bring:Experience reviewing or supporting the work of junior accountantsStrong Excel skills and experience using XeroAn interest in cash-flow, project funding and commercial analysisThe confidence to communicate with finance and non-finance stakeholdersA proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approachExperience with Estate Master or similar feasibility software would be advantageous This role would suit someone who enjoys the technical foundations of accounting but wants greater exposure to how property projects are funded, evaluated and commercially managed.
