JOB SUMMARY:To support the accurate and timely management of the company’s financial accounts and reporting activities. The role is responsible for maintaining financial records, completing month-end closing, reviewing revenue and costs, preparing reconciliations, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, company policies and statutory requirements.The Senior Accountant will work closely with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insight, strengthen controls and ensure the accurate accounting of logistics activities.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Financial Accounting and ReportingPrepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.Complete month-end and year-end closing activities within agreed timelines.Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, provisions, prepayments and cost allocations.Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recorded and supported.Review balance-sheet accounts and resolve outstanding reconciliation items.Support the preparation of audit schedules and respond to internal and external audit requirements.Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, statutory requirements and company policies.Revenue and Cost AccountingReview revenue recognition and ensure income is recorded accurately and in the correct accounting period.Validate operational costs, including transport, warehousing, freight, customs, handling, subcontractor and other logistics-related charges.Review customer billing and supplier costs to identify missing revenue, unbilled costs or margin discrepancies.Monitor job profitability and investigate significant variances between expected and actual margins.Coordinate with operations and commercial teams to resolve billing, costing and revenue-recognition issues.Maintain appropriate accruals for incomplete jobs, services received but not invoiced and other outstanding liabilities.Accounts Receivable and Accounts PayableReview customer and supplier account reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly.Monitor receivables, overdue balances and collections in coordination with the credit-control and commercial teams.Review supplier invoices and payment documentation to ensure accuracy, appropriate approval and compliance with contractual terms.Support the resolution of disputed customer invoices and supplier charges.Ensure transactions are recorded against the correct customer, supplier, cost centre, business unit and accounting period.Budgeting and Financial AnalysisSupport the preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts and long-term financial plans.Analyse actual performance against budget, forecast and prior periods.Prepare variance analysis covering revenue, gross profit, operating expenses and working capital.Provide financial analysis and commentary to support management decision-making.Assist with profitability analysis by customer, service line, branch, route, site or project.Identify financial risks, cost-saving opportunities and areas for process improvement.Compliance and Internal ControlsEnsure compliance with the company’s financial policies, delegation of authority and approval requirements.Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.Support VAT, corporate tax and other statutory reporting requirements, where applicable.Monitor adherence to credit limits, payment terms and financial-control procedures.Identify control weaknesses and recommend appropriate corrective actions.Support the implementation and testing of finance policies, procedures and internal controls.QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related discipline.Professional accounting qualification, or progress toward one, such as ACCA, CMA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent, is preferred.Five or more years of relevant accounting experience, including experience in financial reporting and month-end closing.Previous experience within logistics, freight forwarding, transportation, warehousing, shipping, supply chain or a similar operational environment is preferred.Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls and applicable reporting standards. Experience with ERP and finance systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or equivalent. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.Experience with VAT, corporate tax and statutory compliance requirements relevant to the location is preferred.
