The school is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Business Office and play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly and annual close processes, and providing reliable financial information to school leadership.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, takes ownership of their work, and would like to bring their accounting expertise to a stable, mission-driven organization.
What You'll Do
Manage and maintain accurate general ledger accounts and accounting recordsPrepare and post journal entries and supporting documentationPerform monthly bank and account reconciliationsAssist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processesPrepare and review monthly financial reports and statementsAnalyze account activity and investigate discrepancies or unusual variancesSupport accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as neededMaintain schedules for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals and other balance sheet accountsAssist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysisSupport the annual audit and provide requested schedules and documentationAssist with maintaining appropriate internal controls and accounting proceduresHelp ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and organizational policiesWork closely with the CFO and other members of the Business OfficeProvide financial information and accounting support to school administration as neededIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting and efficiencyHandle confidential financial information with discretion and professionalismWhat We're Looking For:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field preferredApproximately 4+ years of progressive accounting experienceStrong general ledger and financial reporting experienceSolid understanding of GAAP and accounting principlesExperience with month-end close, journal entries and reconciliationsStrong Excel skillsExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independentlyStrong written and verbal communication skillsHigh level of professionalism and discretionNice to Have:Experience in a private school, independent school, nonprofit or other mission-driven organizationNonprofit or fund accounting experienceExperience with tuition, restricted funds or grant accountingExperience supporting an annual auditERP/accounting system experienceCPA or progress toward CPAThe Ideal Candidate:The strongest candidate will be someone who is comfortable getting into the details while also understanding the bigger picture. You should enjoy owning your work, solving accounting issues rather than simply identifying them, and partnering with people outside of Finance.Experience in a school or nonprofit environment is a plus, but we are also open to strong Senior Accountants coming from other industries who bring excellent technical accounting skills and the right personality for a collaborative educational environment.Interested in hearing more?
