Senior ABAP Consultant – SAP S/4HANA Retail Rollout

Location: Offshore (with overlap to UAE business hours)Employment Type: Full-timeExperience Level: Senior (10–12 years)Role PurposeWe are seeking a Senior ABAP Consultant to lead custom development for the SAP S/4HANA store rollout at MAF Retail.

This role will own the technical design of the custom object landscape, deliver the most complex developments, guide the offshore development team, and safeguard code quality, performance, and maintainability across every store wave.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Design & DevelopmentOwn the technical design of RICEFW objects, ensuring alignment with S/4HANA best practices.Review functional specifications for completeness and feasibility, challenging unnecessary customizations.Personally deliver complex developments using CDS views, AMDP, OData services, BAdIs, released APIs, and RAP, while keeping the core clean.Quality, Performance & Team GuidanceDefine and enforce coding, naming, security, transport, and documentation standards.Conduct peer code reviews and set performance benchmarks for high-volume retail data.Mentor and allocate work to offshore developers, ensuring timely delivery and quality.Defect Resolution & Cutover SupportLead root cause analysis and resolution of complex defects during SIT, UAT, cutover, and hypercare.Deliver reconciliation reports, correction programs, and post-load fixes.Support interface developments and troubleshooting with integration and Basis teams.Governance & Knowledge TransferAct as the offshore technical SME throughout the rollout lifecycle.Identify and escalate technical risks with proposed mitigations.Report development scope status to the Development Lead and programme governance.Stakeholder CollaborationCollaborate with functional, integration, data migration, Basis, and testing teams across offshore and onshore locations.Own technical documentation and handover to support teams, ensuring availability during UAE business hours.Qualifications & CompetenciesEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.Experience10–12 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, with significant delivery on S/4HANA.Mandatory: At least one complete greenfield SAP S/4HANA retail implementation.Proven track record in leading development teams, including estimation, work allocation, and mentoring.Experience across SIT, UAT, cutover, go-live, and hypercare phases in multi-site rollouts.Technical SkillsCore ABAP: OO ABAP, ALV, BAPIs, BDC, user exits, BAdIs, enhancement framework, IDoc processing, workflow.S/4HANA: CDS views, AMDP, OData services, released APIs, RAP, clean core extensibility.Advanced performance tuning, debugging, SQL trace analysis for high-volume data.Familiarity with Fiori/UI5 extensions, Adobe/SmartForms, IS-Retail, CAR, and transport management.Soft SkillsExcellent communication in English, with confidence to challenge designs and represent the team.Strong leadership and mentoring ability, with disciplined root cause analysis skills.Ability to perform under pressure during cutover weekends and fixed store opening deadlines.Preferred QualificationsSAP ABAP or SAP S/4HANA development certification.Experience in large-scale, multi-location retail SAP rollouts from offshore.Familiarity with Agile/hybrid methodologies, abapGit/gCTS, SAP Activate, Jira, or Solution Manager.
