Senior AI Backend Engineer

In this role, you’ll take ownership of the backend of an AI-powered research and analysis platform built with Python. You’ll work at the intersection of backend engineering, data, LLMs, and agentic systems, helping shape how AI capabilities are integrated into production workflows. The role is highly collaborative and client-facing, requiring close partnership with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. You’ll have substantial autonomy over technical delivery, architecture, and roadmap priorities. As the platform evolves, you’ll have the opportunity to grow into a technical leadership position with greater influence over architecture and team direction.AccountabilitiesMaintain, enhance, and scale backend systems for an AI-powered research and analysis platform using Python.Design and optimize data ingestion pipelines that bring information from external sources, reviews, and data warehouses into application workflows.Integrate LLMs and agentic capabilities into backend services and multi-step workflows, selecting appropriate models and frameworks for specific use cases.Translate business processes, research workflows, and client requirements into scalable technical solutions and clear backend designs.Take end-to-end ownership of backend technical delivery, contributing to architecture decisions across backend, data, and AI layers.Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, full-stack, and other cross-functional team members to deliver features from concept through production.Ensure backend services meet high standards for reliability, performance, scalability, and data integrity.Own and prioritize technical roadmaps by evaluating feasibility, business value, ROI, and delivery readiness.Engage directly with clients and business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into practical recommendations and solutions.Identify opportunities to improve AI workflows, engineering practices, and platform architecture as the product and client needs evolve.Support the longer-term development of the engineering function, with potential progression into a technical lead role.RequirementsApproximately 8+ years of professional experience in Python backend engineering, with the technical depth and autonomy expected at a senior or lead level.Strong understanding of backend architecture, production systems, APIs, data flows, reliability, and scalable application development.Deep knowledge of Generative AI, including LLM capabilities, model characteristics, AI frameworks, and agentic system design.Proven ability to design multi-step agent workflows and make informed decisions about when and how to incorporate LLM capabilities into production applications.Experience translating business processes and stakeholder needs into technical requirements, solution designs, and scalable implementations, ideally in consulting or client-facing environments.Demonstrated experience owning technical roadmaps and prioritizing competing initiatives based on feasibility, ROI, business value, and readiness.Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technical teams, and non-technical business leaders.Experience working within structured, production-oriented engineering environments with strong expectations around quality and reliability.Fluent or near-native English communication skills, both written and spoken.Strong ownership, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to operate independently in a remote environment.A willingness and demonstrated potential to grow into a technical leadership role.Nice-to-have experience includes data engineering, data ingestion pipelines, data warehousing, or other large-scale data-related work.Experience building or supporting technology for financial services or investment environments is also advantageous.BenefitsFully remote position, allowing you to work from Brazil.High-impact opportunity to contribute to the development of applied AI products and services.Significant technical ownership across backend engineering, data, and AI architecture.Close collaboration with a small, cross-functional team and direct interaction with client stakeholders.Opportunity to work with LLMs, agentic systems, and production-grade Generative AI applications.Long-term career growth potential, including progression toward a technical lead position.Consulting environment offering exposure to complex business challenges and diverse stakeholder needs.How Jobgether WorksWe use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
