The role spans the leading AI ecosystems—including Microsoft (Copilot, Foundry, Power Platform), Amazon Web Services (Bedrock, SageMaker, and related AI services), and other major providers such as Google Cloud (Vertex AI) and open-source/foundation-model platforms. It carries a mission-critical responsibility for enabling advanced AI-driven automation and business process transformation across a multi-cloud AI landscape. The Senior AI Engineer is expected to possess deep, cross-platform expertise in enterprise AI administration, low-code and pro-code solution development, and integration across cloud AI services. This role will be an AI user but also an AI administrator and enabler, capable of designing, implementing, and governing enterprise-level AI solutions that drive operational efficiency, cost reduction, and business value—independent of any single vendor. Operating with a high degree of independence and technical authority, the Senior AI Engineer develops architectural standards and engineering best practices, evaluates emerging AI technologies across the industry, and partners closely with internal clients to design workflows and automation strategies that solve business process issues. The role requires collaboration with business and technical stakeholders to ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and effective AI-enabled solutions.Multi-Cloud Enterprise AI ArchitectureProvide senior-level engineering expertise across leading enterprise AI platforms, including Microsoft (Copilot, Foundry, Power Platform), AWS AI services (e.g., Bedrock, SageMaker), and other industry technologies such as open-source/foundation-model frameworks.Perform design, configuration, optimization, and lifecycle administration of AI services across multiple cloud providers, following industry standards, best practices, and Agency security requirements.Develop architectural standards, governance models, operational processes, and technical documentation that apply consistently across a multi-vendor AI environment.Provide advanced troubleshooting and escalation support for complex AI platform issues, regardless of underlying provider.Develop advanced automation solutions to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability.Evaluate roadmap changes and emerging technologies across Microsoft, AWS,and the broader AI ecosystem to identify opportunities, risks, and recommend platform improvements.AI-Enabled Workflow Design and AutomationSenior-level technical subject matter expert for advanced AI-driven workflow automation and business process improvement across cloud platforms.Design, develop, and implement solutions using a range of enterprise AI technologies—including Microsoft Copilot and Power Platform, AWS AI infrastructure, and other industry AI services and model providers.Collaborate with internal clients to understand operational requirements and translate needs into scalable, vendor-appropriate AI-enabled solutions.Develop integrations across cloud AI services (Microsoft, AWS, and others), low-code/automation platforms, APIs, and approved third-party applications.Develop and maintain governance standards, development practices, lifecycle processes, and adoption recommendations for AI automation across platforms.Information Governance, Compliance, and SecurityProvide advanced technical expertise for the design, implementation, and administration of information protection and governance capabilities across enterprise AI platforms.Develop and maintain data classification strategies, sensitivity labels, retention policies, and information lifecycle management solutions for AI-enabled environments in any cloud.Design, configure, and enhance security controls across multi-cloud AI workloads, including Microsoft, AWS, and other provider environments.Collaborate with Security, Privacy, Legal, Records Management, and business stakeholders to translate governance requirements into effective, platform-agnostic technical solutions.Monitor emerging compliance capabilities across AI platforms and recommend improvements to strengthen Agency data protection strategies.AI Innovation and AdoptionDesign, develop, and support solutions utilizing a diverse set of enterprise AI platforms, including Microsoft, AWS, and open-source/foundation-model technologies.Create workflow automation and business process improvement solutions integrated with AI services from multiple providers.Develop and maintain governance practices, security controls, development standards, and lifecycle processes that span the AI platform portfolio.Support the adoption and governance of emerging AI capabilities—including conversational agents, agent-building studios (e.g., Copilot Studio, Amazon Bedrock Agents, and comparable tools), connectors, model endpoints, and related technologies.Develop cross-platform expertise across Microsoft, AWS, and other industry AI solutions, and evaluate opportunities to securely leverage AI capabilities to improve business productivity and efficiency.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline and three or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and/or knowledge.Advanced experience administering and engineering enterprise AI platforms across multiple providers, such as Microsoft (Copilot, Foundry, Power Platform), AWS AI services, and other industry technologies.Strong experience with AI solution development, workflow automation, and business process improvement.Experience implementing information governance and protection capabilities within AI platforms.Strong knowledge of authentication technologies, security practices, and AI platform administration across cloud environments.Advanced scripting and automation experience.Demonstrated ability to independently research, evaluate, design, and implement complex technical solutions.Ability to provide advanced technical guidance, recommendations, and knowledge sharing with other IT professionals.Effective communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders and leadership.Preferred Qualifications – Experience with some or all of the following:Advanced enterprise AI administration and agent/assistant development on one or more major platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio, Amazon Bedrock Agents, or comparable tools), including AI governance and security controls for enterprise AI adoption.Advanced low-code and enterprise automation platform architecture, including environment strategy, connectors, data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Dataverse or equivalent), governance, and application lifecycle management.Experience integrating and operating AI services across multiple clouds, including Microsoft Foundry, AWS AI infrastructure (e.g., Bedrock, SageMaker), or similar.Experience with APIs and cloud development technologies such as Microsoft Graph API, Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, or comparable serverless and integration services.Familiarity with foundation models and model providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta Llama, and others) and the practices for securely integrating them into enterprise workflows.On Call Rotation RequiredThis position may require participation in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation. The frequency of the rotation depends on the number of members in the team. On call requires carrying a cellphone and responding to calls within the agreed upon timeframe set within Agency standards.
