Senior AML/ATF Specialist Employment Type: Permanent Full-TimeApplication Deadline: August 31, 2026Workplace Type: Hybrid Location: Canada Position SummaryThe Senior AML/ATF Specialist is responsible for supporting and administering Sonoma Capital's Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing (AML/ATF) compliance program. This role acts as the primary subject matter expert for customer due diligence, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, suspicious transaction investigations, and regulatory compliance requirements under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA). The role will serve as a key liaison with regulators, auditors, business units, and external service providers, supporting the effective implementation and oversight of Sonoma’s AML/ATF compliance obligations. Reporting directly to and working closely with the VP, Risk, who serves as Sonoma's Compliance Officer, this individual will act as Sonoma's AML/ATF subject matter expert and support the day-to-day administration of the compliance program. The role will also partner with regulators, auditors, business units, and external service providers to ensure adherence to all applicable AML/ATF requirements. From an operational perspective, this position will assume a number of AML-related responsibilities currently shared across the team. Responsibilities will include conducting file audits and quality assurance reviews, supporting compliance reporting, assisting with policy development and updates. Key Responsibilities AML/ATF Program Administration ·        Support the ongoing development, maintenance, and enhancement of Sonoma's AML/ATF compliance program.·        Monitor regulatory developments, FINTRAC guidance, and emerging financial crime trends.·        Assist in the maintenance of AML policies, procedures, forms, and controls.·        Support regulatory examinations, audits, and independent effectiveness reviews.·        Coordinate remediation activities resulting from audits or compliance reviews. Transaction Monitoring and Investigations ·        Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts.·        Conduct financial crime investigations and document findings.·        Identify suspicious activity indicators and escalate concerns appropriately.·        Prepare and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other regulatory reports.·        Maintain detailed investigative records and audit trails. Regulatory Compliance ·        Ensure compliance with PCMLTFA, FINTRAC requirements, sanctions requirements, privacy legislation, and internal policies.·        Support the implementation of regulatory changes and new compliance requirements.·        Assist business units with AML-related questions. Training and Awareness ·        Deliver AML/ATF training programs to employees.·        Develop training materials and communications.·        Promote AML awareness throughout the organization.·        Support onboarding and annual compliance certification processes. Reporting and Governance ·        Prepare AML reporting for senior management·        Monitor and report on key compliance metrics, including: o   Screening volumes o   High-risk customer reviews o   STR filings Qualifications EducationPost-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Commerce, Risk Management, or related field. Experience·        3-7+ years of AML/ATF, financial crime, fraud, credit, compliance, or audit.·        Experience conducting investigations and customer due diligence reviews.·        Experience working with compliance screening and monitoring platforms. Preferred Certifications·        CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist)·        CFCS (Certified Financial Crime Specialist)·        CSI Branch Compliance·        ICA AML Certification·        Other relevant compliance or risk certifications or training Core Competencies·        Strong investigative and analytical skills·        Knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and FINTRAC requirements·        Risk assessment and decision-making·        Attention to detail·        Regulatory interpretation·        Written and verbal communication·        Relationship management·        Process improvement mindset·        Integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism About our CompanySonoma Capital is a Canada-based, coast-to-coast equipment finance provider supporting businesses across a range of industries.
