Embedded within a world-class data science and analytics client organization at one of the most recognized technology companies on the planet, you will help lead the transformation of traditional business intelligence into a unified, AI-augmented ecosystem at a scale few engineers ever experience. This is a senior, high-ownership role designed for engineers who thrive on independent execution. You will design governed data foundations, build production-grade conversational AI agents, and lead root cause analysis frameworks that shape the decisions of a global digital platform — influencing key business metrics across product growth, user loyalty, commerce, trust, and beyond.Responsibilities Include:Data Engineering & Platform FoundationsDesign and implement unified, governed semantic layers, robust data marts, and pre-aggregated data cubes to ensure high performance and data trustworthiness.Lead large-scale data migrations from legacy databases to optimized core infrastructure, ensuring seamless transitions, high quality, and zero production downtime.Aggressively optimize high-overhead schemas, reduce query execution runtimes, and minimize base table scans to control compute costs.Partner with Data Engineering teams to shift operations from reactive troubleshooting to proactive SLA management and automated pipeline monitoring.Analytical Rigor & Advanced Root Cause AnalysisEstablish and automate structured, multi-dimensional Root Cause Analysis (RCA) frameworks to quickly diagnose quantitative drivers of metric changes (e.g., Spend, Buyers, Paying Users, Organic Traffic).Rationalize and consolidate fragmented dashboards and redundant output tables into highly performant, unified data stores.Develop and enforce data access practices that restrict ad-hoc queries to appropriate aggregation levels, preventing unnecessary resource bottlenecks.AI-Native Engineering, Agent Development & EvaluationDesign, test, and deploy specialized AI-native Skills and conversational Agents that enable stakeholders to ask complex business questions in natural language.Build and run offline evaluation test suites using command-line evaluation frameworks and LLM-assisted judges to prevent regressions in prompt updates before code is committed.Implement SQL safety gates within AI agents to dynamically enforce partition filters, column minimization, and query cost limitations.Champion modern AI development tools (e.g., Gemini Coder and unified coding agents) to maximize engineering velocity and maintain high-quality code.Qualifications:5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Advanced Business Intelligence.Expert-level SQL proficiency (GoogleSQL, BigQuery, or equivalent large-scale query engines) with deep understanding of partitioning, clustering, indexing, and cost optimization.Proven experience designing performant star-schema or snowflake data marts, semantic layers, and automated ETL pipelines.Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, PySpark, API integration) or R.Extensive experience leading structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and deep-dives for core business metrics in consumer tech, e-commerce, or mobile app platforms.Demonstrated track record of independent execution on complex, end-to-end engineering migrations.Preferred Qualifications:Practical experience developing applications powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or agentic frameworks.Familiarity with command-line agent evaluation frameworks, benchmark configuration (e.g., .txtpb formats), and LLM-assisted side-by-side evaluations.Experience establishing validation filters, safety gates, or guardrails for AI-generated database queries.Prior experience working with Google Cloud infrastructure, BigQuery, or Google-scale data platforms. Background in consumer tech, mobile apps, e-commerce, or digital marketplace analytics.Pay:The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
