Location: Dubai, UAE / Remote (flexible)Employment Type: Full-time or Contract-to-HireExperience: 5+ years of software development, with demonstrable experience building production AI applicationsAbout JOHO DigitalJOHO Digital is an AI consulting and digital transformation company focused on helping businesses adopt practical AI solutions that improve productivity, customer engagement, operational efficiency and decision-making.We are developing AI-powered solutions for businesses across industries, beginning with opportunities in travel and tourism, customer service, workflow automation, and intelligent business operations.We are looking for a hands-on Senior Applied AI Engineer who can take an AI use case from concept through architecture, development, integration, testing and production deployment.The RoleYou will be responsible for building intelligent applications that combine Large Language Models (LLMs), business workflows, enterprise data, external APIs and automation technologies.This is not a pure AI research or prompt engineering role.

We need a strong software engineer who understands how to use AI reliably within real business applications.You will work closely with JOHO's founder to translate client requirements into scalable AI solutions.Key Responsibilities1. AI Application DevelopmentDesign and build applications using LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and other suitable providers.Develop AI agents capable of retrieving information, invoking authorized tools and executing controlled business workflows.Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, structured data extraction and function calling.Build multilingual AI assistants for WhatsApp, web and other communication channels.Develop solutions for quotation generation, itinerary planning, document processing and business automation.2. Backend Development & IntegrationDevelop secure REST APIs and backend services using Python and FastAPI or equivalent frameworks.Integrate AI services with WhatsApp Business Platform, CRM systems, email, databases, accounting platforms and third-party APIs.Process structured and unstructured data from PDFs, spreadsheets, emails and documents.Implement asynchronous processing, background jobs, webhook handling, authentication and integration error recovery.Work with existing applications and extend their capabilities rather than unnecessarily rebuilding systems.3. Intelligent Workflow AutomationDesign workflows combining AI reasoning with deterministic business rules.Build approval workflows and human-in-the-loop controls for quotations, bookings and financial transactions.Use orchestration frameworks and automation tools such as LangGraph, n8n, or equivalent technologies when appropriate.Implement retry mechanisms, activity tracking, error handling and monitoring.4. Production EngineeringBuild and deploy secure, reliable applications using Docker and cloud infrastructure.Implement automated tests, CI/CD, logging, monitoring and API-cost optimization.Develop evaluation datasets to measure AI accuracy, reliability and business-task completion.Protect sensitive customer data with appropriate access controls, encryption, retention practices and tenant isolation.Design systems that remain reliable when AI services, external APIs or third-party integrations fail.5. Solution DeliveryParticipate in technical discovery and solution design.Develop rapid prototypes and client demonstrations.Convert successful prototypes into maintainable, production-ready solutions.Document architecture, APIs, deployment procedures and operational requirements.Collaborate on technical feasibility, implementation estimates and deployment plans.Required Technical SkillsSoftware EngineeringStrong production experience with Python, FastAPI or a comparable backend framework.REST APIs, JSON, OAuth 2.0, webhooks and system integration.SQL and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.Git, Docker, automated testing and cloud deployment.Experience designing maintainable, secure backend architectures.Applied AI EngineeringHands-on experience integrating commercial or open-weight LLMs into real applications.Function/tool calling, structured outputs and prompt design.RAG architectures, embeddings and vector search.Agent orchestration, state management and workflow automation.LLM evaluation, observability, fallback handling and hallucination mitigation.Understanding of latency, token usage and AI API cost optimization.Integration & AutomationThird-party API integration and webhook processing.Familiarity with business communication channels, preferably WhatsApp Business Platform.Document extraction, OCR or intelligent document processing.Experience translating business processes into executable workflows.Preferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsRuby on Rails and background-job systems such as Sidekiq.JavaScript, TypeScript or React.Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, n8n or similar frameworks.PostgreSQL vector search using pgvector.Travel APIs such as Amadeus, hotel booking platforms, reservation systems or GDS integrations.Familiarity with CRM, ERP, accounting and financial reconciliation workflows.Experience developing multi-tenant SaaS applications.Arabic-language AI applications or multilingual customer engagement.Experience in a consultancy, systems integrator or early-stage product company.What Success Looks LikeDuring your first 90 days, you should be able to:Understand JOHO's reference architecture and priority customer use cases.Develop a functional AI travel sales assistant proof of concept.Integrate AI-assisted lead qualification with a business communication channel and a lead management workflow.Implement retrieval of approved travel packages and controlled quotation generation.Demonstrate structured testing, human approval controls and measurable operational outcomes.Support a client pilot, subject to access to relevant systems and data.Ideal CandidateYou are a builder who enjoys solving real business problems.You can independently design a solution, select appropriate technologies, write production code, integrate systems, troubleshoot failures and demonstrate the business outcome.You know where AI adds value and where traditional software engineering provides a more reliable solution.You prioritize shipping useful applications over unnecessary architectural complexity.QualificationsA degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is welcome.
