Apply & track with Apply EdgeAbout Manyas & PartnersManyas & Partners is an independent commercial law firm advising Turkish and international businesses on complex commercial matters, cross-border transactions, major projects and disputes.We have particular experience advising businesses operating in the manufacturing, automotive, engineering, shipbuilding and heavy industry sectors, often in matters involving complex contractual arrangements and significant commercial and technical issues.As our international arbitration and disputes practice continues to grow, we are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Associate to join the team.The RoleThe successful candidate will work closely with the firm's partners on a range of complex domestic and international disputes, with a particular focus on international commercial arbitration.The role will involve substantial responsibility for the conduct of matters and will include:Managing international and domestic arbitration matters through their various stages;Contributing to case assessment, strategy and the development of legal and factual arguments;Drafting submissions, statements of case, legal opinions and other substantive documents;Analysing complex contracts, project documentation, correspondence and evidential records;Conducting legal research and analysing relevant legislation and case law;Managing document production and evidential workstreams;Working with factual witnesses and expert witnesses;Preparing for and participating in arbitration hearings;Liaising directly with Turkish and international clients on the conduct and strategy of mattersCoordinating with foreign counsel, experts and other professional advisers;Advising on the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and related court and enforcement proceedings; andProviding clear and timely reporting to clients throughout the course of a matter.What We Are Looking ForCandidates should have:More than five years' relevant post-qualification experience in arbitration and dispute resolution;Substantial experience of international commercial arbitration;Hands-on experience of ICC arbitration proceedings;A strong understanding of arbitral procedure and the conduct of institutional arbitration;Experience taking substantive responsibility for significant aspects of arbitration matters;Strong experience drafting complex legal submissions and other contentious documents;Experience preparing for and participating in arbitration hearings;A strong grounding in commercial and contract law;The ability to analyse substantial and complex factual and documentary records and identify the issues that matter;Excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills;Excellent written and spoken English;The confidence and judgement to deal directly with clients, witnesses, experts and external counsel; andStrong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.Additional ExperienceWe would particularly welcome candidates with:Experience of London-seated arbitration and/or disputes governed by English law;Experience of LMAA or other maritime arbitration proceedings;Experience of disputes arising from shipbuilding, maritime, engineering, manufacturing, automotive, construction or major industrial projects;Experience working with technical, delay, quantum or other expert witnesses; andExperience working alongside international law firms and cross-border legal teams.Approach and CapabilitiesWe are looking for a lawyer with strong technical legal ability, a sophisticated understanding of arbitral procedure and sound commercial judgement.The successful candidate should be able to assess not only the substantive merits of a dispute, but also the procedural and evidential issues that can materially affect the conduct and outcome of an arbitration.In particular, they should be able to:Get to the heart of a complex dispute and distinguish the critical issues from the background detail;Develop clear and persuasive legal arguments grounded in the evidence;Apply a strong command of arbitral procedure and exercise sound judgement on procedural and evidential issues;Anticipate issues as a matter develops and contribute meaningfully to case strategy;Combine rigorous legal analysis with an understanding of the client's business and commercial objectives;Work confidently and independently while collaborating effectively with the wider team;Take ownership of substantial workstreams and exercise appropriate judgement as to when partner input is required; andBuild trusted relationships with clients, counsel, experts and other professional advisers.Candidates should also be confident users of the technology required for modern legal practice, including:Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications;Electronic document management, legal research and document review tools relevant to complex disputes;
