Senior Backend Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer in Utrecht for one of our clients.As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll design, build, and evolve the services that power our next-generation search platform. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary Agile team of backend and frontend engineers, a Product Owner, and a Scrum Master to deliver innovative digital experiences.Your responsibilities include:Developing scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.Designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.Building and improving integrations with Elasticsearch and modern search technologies.Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and automation using Azure DevOps.Ensuring high-quality software through automated testing with JUnit and Mockito.Collaborating closely with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders across the organization.Driving innovation by integrating hybrid search, vector search, and Generative AI capabilities.Monitoring, optimizing, and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure services.Ensuring solutions meet compliance and data protection standards.Required4+ years of experience in backend software development.Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.Experience with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and Boards.Strong understanding of Git and modern deployment practices.Experience with JUnit and Mockito.Experience with search platforms or modern search architectures.Familiarity with vector search, LLMs, or Generative AI concepts.Knowledge of software quality, scalability, and performance best practices.Nice to haveExperience with Elasticsearch.Experience with Kafka.Experience with Cloud Foundry.We're looking for someone who:Takes ownership and delivers high-quality solutions.Enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams.Has a proactive, curious, and innovative mindset.Is comfortable challenging ideas and driving continuous improvement.Thrives in Agile/Scrum environments.Enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a large-scale organization.Why join us?Join a team that's redefining the future of search.
