Senior Backend Software Engineer – Node.js & Data

This is not a junior or entry-level position. Candidates should have proven production experience with Node.js backend systems and data-intensive applications.About the RoleWe are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with strong experience in Node.js and data-intensive applications to join our engineering team.The ideal candidate has hands-on experience building scalable backend systems, working with large and complex datasets, designing high-performance APIs, and integrating multiple external data sources.This is a senior, hands-on engineering role. We are looking for someone who can take ownership, solve complex backend and data challenges, and contribute to technical architecture decisions.Work Type: On-site or RemoteKey ResponsibilitiesDesign and build scalable backend systems using Node.js and TypeScript.Develop reliable and high-performance REST APIs.Work with large datasets and complex data structures.Design, optimize, and maintain MongoDB databases.Build data processing, transformation, matching, and normalization workflows.Integrate multiple third-party APIs and external data sources.Identify and resolve duplicate, inconsistent, or incomplete data.Improve API, database, and application performance.Build background jobs, queues, caching, and asynchronous processing systems.Integrate AI and LLM services into backend applications.Troubleshoot complex production and data-related issues.Participate in system architecture and technical decision-making.Review code and maintain high engineering standards.Collaborate with Product, Mobile, Web, Data, and AI teams.Required Experience5+ years of Backend Software Engineering experience.Strong professional experience with Node.js and TypeScript.Strong experience with NestJS and/or ExpressJS.Strong experience with MongoDB and Mongoose.Proven experience working with large or complex datasets.Strong understanding of data modeling and database optimization.Experience building and optimizing REST APIs.Experience integrating multiple third-party APIs and external data sources.Experience with Redis and background job processing.Experience with BullMQ and/or RabbitMQ.Experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD.Good understanding of scalable backend architecture and microservices.Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.Data Engineering ExperienceStrong experience in at least some of the following:Data ingestion and processingData transformation and normalizationEntity matching and deduplicationLarge-scale database operationsData quality and validationETL / data pipelinesScheduled and background data processingHigh-volume API integrationsAI IntegrationExperience integrating AI services or LLMs is a strong advantage, including:OpenAI / Claude or similar AI APIsFunction CallingStructured OutputsRAGEmbeddingsVector SearchPrompt EngineeringNice to HaveWeb scraping and data extraction experience.Playwright / Puppeteer experience.Proxy and anti-blocking solutions.AWS and MongoDB Atlas.WebSockets.Elasticsearch or similar search technologies.Experience with recommendation, search, marketplace, food delivery, or comparison platforms.What We're Looking ForWe are specifically looking for a senior engineer who:Has deep hands-on Node.js experience.Is comfortable working with large and messy datasets.Can solve complex backend and data problems independently.Understands scalability, performance, and system architecture.Takes ownership from problem definition to production deployment.Can review and improve existing architecture and code.Can communicate technical decisions clearly with both technical and non-technical teams.
