You will gain exposure to the entire commissioning lifecycle, from early planning and testing strategy through to integrated systems testing, operational readiness, and client handover.As part of our growing Site Services team, you will be empowered to develop your expertise, take ownership of major project milestones, and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure that powers the digital world.What's In It For You?Be at the Centre of Mission-Critical DeliveryYou'll play a pivotal role in commissioning complex data centre environments, ensuring critical systems are tested, validated, and ready for operation.Work with Industry-Leading ClientsPartner with hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation operators on some of the most technically challenging projects across Europe.Accelerate Your Professional GrowthBenefit from ongoing mentoring, support, and practical on-site experience while working alongside industry-recognised commissioning and engineering professionals.Exposure to the Full Commissioning LifecycleLead and support commissioning activities from planning and documentation through to functional testing, integrated systems testing, reliability demonstrations, and final handover.Influence Project SuccessWork directly with key stakeholders, providing technical expertise, identifying risks, solving complex engineering challenges, and contributing to project-critical decisions.What You'll Be DoingAs a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and executing commissioning activities across mission-critical projects, including:Developing commissioning plans, test procedures, and Level 1-5 commissioning processes.Reviewing construction and design documentation to define commissioning requirements and testing strategies.Coordinating commissioning activities with construction teams, designers, vendors, contractors, and client representatives.Planning and managing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for critical systems testing.Leading or supporting FATs, SATs, Pre-Functional Checklists (PFCs), Functional Performance Testing (FPTs), and Integrated Systems Testing (ISTs).Verifying system redundancy, failover strategies, resilience scenarios, and operational performance.Identifying and resolving technical issues while supporting programme-critical milestones.Maintaining accurate commissioning records, issue logs, testing documentation, and performance data.Supporting operational readiness requirements and client handover processes.Promoting safe commissioning practices, including LOTO procedures and safe energisation protocols.Providing regular updates to project teams and clients, identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies.Supporting training, knowledge transfer, and handover activities with facilities and operations teams.What Will Help You SucceedWe're interested in professionals who bring a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving capability, and strong stakeholder management skills.Ideally, you'll have:A degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.Experience commissioning data centres, mission-critical facilities, or other complex infrastructure environments.Strong understanding of the data centre commissioning lifecycle, including Level 1-5 testing, PFCs, FPTs, and ISTs.Knowledge of critical systems including electrical, mechanical, controls, BMS, EPMS, and integrated site infrastructure.Understanding of redundancy concepts such as N, N+1, and 2N architectures.Experience managing failover testing, reliability demonstrations, and scenario-based commissioning exercises.Strong documentation and reporting skills.Ability to analyse performance data and identify technical issues.Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.Flexibility to travel across European project locations.Experience working with hyperscale or colocation data centre operators and familiarity with digital commissioning platforms such as CxAlloy, Procore, EQUA, or equivalent systems would be advantageous.About Black & White EngineeringBlack & White Engineering is a multi-award-winning global engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of high-performance buildings and mission-critical infrastructure.Founded in 2007, we have grown to a team of more than 1,000 professionals operating across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
