With 35+ recycling and organics processing facilities nationwide and a rapidly growing infrastructure network, the organization combines advanced technology with large-scale environmental impact while fostering a culture focused on innovation, sustainability, professional growth, and operational excellence.The Senior Corporate Counsel will play a key role in building and advancing the legal department while advising facility leadership and executives on commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, risk, and day-to-day legal matters. Based in New York City, this highly visible role is ideal for a hands-on corporate generalist with deep experience in industrial, manufacturing, recycling, organics, or materials management who can combine legal judgment with practical business insight.ResponsibilitiesOversee legal matters supporting facilities across the U.S., including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk, and dispute resolution.Draft and negotiate agreements involving government entities, vendors, customers, commodities, transportation, technology, financing, procurement, NDAs, and other business relationships.Advise on environmental, health, and safety matters involving OSHA and federal, state, and municipal regulatory agencies.Support M&A transactions, integrations, real estate, intellectual property, cybersecurity, privacy, labor and employment, insurance, and sustainability matters.Partner with executive and cross-functional leadership to identify legal risks and develop practical solutions supporting growth and operational objectives.Represent the organization before state and federal regulatory bodies and related organizations.Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting operations and advise stakeholders on business implications.Develop legal playbooks, templates, policies, procedures, compliance programs, and training.Manage outside counsel and specialized legal resources while maintaining appropriate oversight of legal expenses.Improve legal processes and infrastructure as the organization and legal department continue to grow.Qualifications10+ years of experience as a licensed attorney required.J.D. from an accredited law school required.Active license to practice law in New York required; additional state bar admissions preferred.Extensive legal experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, services, recycling, organics, waste, or materials-management operations.Demonstrated experience leading complex commercial transactions and negotiating contracts and agreements.Corporate and/or commercial transactions counsel experience strongly preferred.Experience with environmental, regulatory, compliance, and operational legal matters.Experience with Ironclad or a comparable Contract Lifecycle Management platform and Microsoft Office.Experience within waste, recycling, or organics strongly preferred.Experience contracting with municipalities or recycling facilities preferred.Combination of in-house and top-tier law firm experience preferred.Experience building a legal function or supporting a high-growth, startup, public, or private equity-backed organization preferred.Ability to work in New York City and travel periodically to operating locations.
