The successful candidate will join a highly respected and growing fixed income platform, working directly alongside the portfolio management team.This is a senior role focused on deep, bottom-up fundamental credit analysis. The position offers a defined route into portfolio management and has the potential to develop into a senior leadership role over time. The successful candidate will also build a client-facing profile, subsequently leading meetings with institutional clients and prospective investors.Candidates whose careers sit predominantly in HY and leveraged loans are encouraged to apply, provided they bring some IG experience or at the very least are happy to have IG as a meaningful part of their coverage universe in a new seat.Key ResponsibilitiesFundamental Credit Research: Conduct detailed underwriting across investment grade, crossover, high yield and leveraged loan opportunities spanning multiple industries.Credit Assessment: Identify credit investment opportunities, reaching clear and defensible conclusions on credit quality and suitability.Capital Structure Analysis: Evaluate cash flows, leverage, covenants, documentation, structural protections and downside scenarios, with an emphasis on capital preservation.Leveraged Loan Underwriting: Underwrite and monitor leveraged loan positions on an ongoing basis, including documentation, terms, and loan trading and settlement mechanics.Portfolio Management Partnership: Work closely with portfolio managers on capital deployment and participate in portfolio meetings, investment discussions and daily calls across the broader credit platform.Investment Presentations: Present credit views to the full investment team, responding constructively to challenge and contributing to an open, debate-driven decision-making process.Client Engagement: Over time, join and then lead meetings with institutional clients and prospects alongside the distribution team, acting as the technical voice of the investment platform.Cross-Grade Coverage: Manage coverage across several industries and ratings categories, with a particular focus on BBB and BB credits alongside selective performing single B opportunities.Platform Development: Contribute to the continued development of the credit business and, over time, support the leadership of the platform.Requirements & QualificationsExperience Level: Approximately 15-25+ years of credit investment experience, operating at senior analyst level or equivalent.Buy-Side Foundation: The majority of your career, including your current or most recent role, spent underwriting credits within an asset manager, investment manager, insurer or comparable buy-side environment.Cross-Grade Range: Strong experience across both investment grade and performing high yield credit, with the ability to assess opportunities throughout the corporate capital structure. Backgrounds weighted toward high yield and loans are welcome where there is some investment grade experience.Leveraged Loans: Current, hands-on experience underwriting leveraged loans held in a portfolio today, including cash-flow modelling, covenant analysis, documentation review, structural analysis and an understanding of loan trading and settlement. Historic or sell-side loan exposure alone will not meet this requirement.Sector Coverage: Experience covering multiple corporate sectors. Careers focused exclusively on a single industry, including financial institutions only, will not meet this requirement.Client-Facing Experience: Experience presenting to institutional clients and prospects, together with excellent communication skills. Any experience helping to win or retain institutional business is a significant plus.Location: Based in New York, or firmly committed to being so, for an in-office, team-based environment.Underwriting Judgment: A strong record of making independent underwriting decisions, rather than solely producing research or supporting recommendations.Investment Style: Willingness to adopt a differentiated investment process combining quantitative screening with quality-first, downside-focused fundamental underwriting, within a long-term, buy-and-hold framework rather than a trading or relative value approach.Team Fit: A collegiate working style and the confidence to present investment conclusions within an open, debate-driven team environment.Qualifications: A CFA, MSc or other relevant advanced qualification is preferred.
