Job DescriptionThe role is part of the Credit Risk Function which sits in the 2nd Line of Defence andis tasked with supporting the Chief Credit Officer “CCO” with credit risk decisionmaking activities, the ongoing development, embedding and monitoring of the Bank’sCredit Risk Management Framework and to ensure Credit Risk activities remaineffective and relevant to the Bank’s strategic objectives and the prevailing externaleconomic environment. The role holder will be a Chair of Credit ApprovalsCommittee “CAC”, whilst also exercising a personal delegated lending authority.The role holder will act as the primary point of reference and technical expert primarily forCommercial Investment Real Estate, Specialty Finance and Asset Based Lendingactivities undertaken by the Commercial Banking Franchise. This will also involvebeing directly responsible for ensuring the adequacy and relevance of ongoingresourcing, recruitment and management of sector specific focused Credit Risksanctioning teams. In addition to performing credit risk sanctioning decision makingfor specific transactions, the role holder will be responsible for the oversight of theongoing credit risk performance of the said specific asset class portfolios, whilstbeing influential in the ongoing evolution and development of the quality of credit riskanalysis and presentation undertaken by both 1st Line and 2nd Line, providingsupport and guidance where appropriate. Furthermore, the role holder will be integralto the continued development and evolution of credit risk processes and systems.Key ResponsibilitiesSenior Leadership Responsible for leading and managing a highly performing team, workingcollaboratively with the Deputy CCO and the other Credit Risk Team Head tocoordinate the effective deployment of resource across the entire Credit RiskFunction to ensure workloads are managed appropriately. When required, take ownership and responsibility for the preparation andpresentation of analysis and findings relating to specific matters to variousinternal and external stakeholders. Identify, evaluate and formulate strategy and relevant action plans to driveprocess efficiencies, harnessing automation where possible across the CreditRisk Function. Provide constructive and informed challenge to 1st Line proposed growthplans and any proposed change to sector risk appetite and policy.People and Culture Create a supportive and collaborative working environment, inspiring andmotivating others. Encourage and drive your own personal development, whilst providingsupport, guidance and encouragement to colleagues with a view to optimisetheir own ability and career aspirations where appropriate. Responsible for your direct Team delivering a consistently highly effectiveperformance, whilst ensuring this is not detriment to people’s wellbeing. Responsible for identifying and managing in an effective and supportivemanner any individual under performance situationCredit Sanctioning Responsibility for the credit risk sanctioning decisions for a variety oftransactions, often large (<=c£75m) and complex in nature, across a broadrange of asset classes and structures, with a particular focus on CommercialInvestment Real Estate, Speciality Finance and Asset Based Lending. Responsible for ensuring all credit risk sanctioning decisions, both personally(either within individual discretion or as Chair of CAC), together with those ofthe Credit Risk Team are appropriately considered in a consistently balancedand duly informed manner.Risk Committees Direct involvement with the preparation of any papers relevant to the role forApproval, Noting or Discussion at the Bank’s various Executive and Non-Executive Risk Committees. Take ownership for the successful follow up of outstanding Action Points fromany the relevant Committees. Act as a Member, or when required, as Chair ofCredit Risk Oversight Committee and Watch & Impairment Committee, whilstrepresenting Credit Risk at various other Committees as and whenappropriate.Credit Portfolio Monitoring Analyse, review and comment on the performance of each asset classportfolio for which the role holder is directly responsible for, includingmonitoring of associated Watchlists and Impairments. Monitoring and reporting on compliance with credit risk appetite andconcentration risk limitsQuality Control & Assurance Ensure each asset class the role holder is directly responsible for operateswithin both its own Asset Class Policy “ACP” and overarching Credit RiskPolicies, identifying and reporting Credit Policy Exceptions as appropriate. Oversight of the quality and standards of both 1st Line credit submissions and2nd Line analysis and recommendations and / or approvals made withinindividual Delegated Authority. Provide direction and input into the 2nd Line Credit Monitoring reviews andresultant reportsCredit Risk Policies Work in conjunction with 1st Line in establishing and / or evolving those ACP’srelevant to the role holder’s areas of technical expertise, whilst ensuring theseremain aligned to the Bank’s Credit Risk Appetite Statement. Ensureconstructive challenge is given where appropriate.
