Within Command, Control, Communications and Computers (C4) Enterprise Directorate (J-6), we empower our Nation’s senior leaders and the warfighter community with assured enterprise services to win in an evolving global landscape.Position Overview: The Senior Cyber Engineer serves as the senior DevSecOps security architect for the enterprise, engineering automated security controls, hardened cloud‑native infrastructure, and Zero Trust enforcement across platforms, networks, and endpoints. This role integrates security directly into CI/CD pipelines, drives vulnerability automation and threat modeling, and translates complex regulatory frameworks into practical engineering requirements. The Senior Cyber Engineer ensures continuous security observability, resilient cloud and container security, and provides authoritative technical guidance to product and engineering leadership.Salary: $143,913 to $187,093 per year (inclusive of TLMS and locality adjustments)Location: Fort Meade, MD; Arlington, VA, Scott AFB, IL, San Antonio, TXMajor Duties:Architect Security as Code: Design, build, and integrate automated security gates and compliance checks directly into modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI), shifting security "left" in the development lifecycle.Secure Cloud & Container Infrastructure: Define, implement, and audit security configurations for cloud-native infrastructure, with a heavy focus on Azure, Kubernetes (AKS), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates like Terraform.Establish Zero Trust Architectures: Lead the engineering and enforcement of Zero Trust principles across platforms, virtual networks, enterprise endpoints (including AVD), and identity management systems.Automate Vulnerability Management: Engineer and manage automated scanning tools for static application security testing (SAST), dynamic application security testing (DAST), software composition analysis (SCA), and container image vulnerability assessments. Lead Threat Modeling & Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive threat modeling and architectural risk assessments on emerging capabilities and next-generation systems, defining technical security controls and mitigation strategies.Serve as Security Subject Matter Expert (SME): Act as the technical security advisor to the Product Manager, Chief Engineer, and engineering teams, translating complex regulatory frameworks (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, IL5) into actionable technical requirements.Drive Security Observability: Architect and optimize security monitoring, logging, and telemetry solutions (SIEM) to ensure rapid incident detection, automated alerting, and continuous compliance reporting.Key SkillsDevSecOpsEngineering ManagementCloud InfrastructureInfrastructure as CodeAgile MethodologiesSystems EngineeringKubernetesCybersecurityTeam LeadershipNetwork EngineeringConditions of Employment:Must be a U.S. Citizen.This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment.
