Senior Database Administrator

About the RoleAs a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure database systems using both SQL and NoSQL technologies. You will play a key role in ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and supporting mission-critical applications. This role requires strong collaboration with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of data systems across the enterprise.ResponsibilitiesMonitor database performance and proactively optimize queries, indexing, and resource utilization.Manage database backup strategies, perform regular backups, and ensure effective disaster recovery processes.Configure and maintain high availability, replication, and failover mechanisms.Ensure data security through access controls, encryption, and regular audits.Automate routine database tasks and maintenance using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).Support application development teams with database design, queries, and performance tuning.Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues in a timely and efficient manner.Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and version control with minimal downtime.Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to integrate databases into CI/CD workflows.Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, and policies.QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.5+ years of experience in database administration, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.Required SkillsStrong hands-on experience with SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle).Working knowledge of NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).Proficiency in database performance tuning and optimization techniques.Experience with high availability, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies.Strong scripting skills in languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.Solid understanding of database security best practices.Experience with cloud database servicesPreferred SkillsFamiliarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) toolsExperience with containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes.Certification in database administrationExperience with monitoring and logging tools
