- Responsible for leading the design, development, and documentation of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems, while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standardsRequirements
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership:o Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Design Engineers and Engineering Interns.o Provide guidance on complex design challenges, protection schemes, control circuits, and customer requirements.o Provide peer reviews of the engineering deliverables of less experienced engineers.o Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.o Support engineering training and knowledge sharing initiatives.o Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards, templates, and best practices.Advanced Design Engineeringo Lead the design and development of complex electrical switchgear systems including general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.o Lead the selection and specification of electrical components and provide guidance on component application, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.o Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical).o Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).o Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.o Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.o Participate in customer technical review meetings and provide engineering expertise during project execution.o Support resolution of technical issues during manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and post-shipment activities.Work Environment:o Functions with a high degree of autonomy and technical authority. Expected to independently manage complex projects while providing guidance and support to other engineers.o Typical work week - 40 hrs.o This is an on-site position unless approval is given by management based on a major life changeo Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed.o Travel is not required for this position.

- The successful Senior Design Engineer must:o Demonstrate advanced technical expertise in switchgear and power distribution system design.o Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers.o Independently manage complex projects with minimal oversight.o Evaluate technical alternatives and make sound engineering decisions.o Effectively communicate technical concepts to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.o Identify opportunities for process improvements and standardization.o Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills while successfully managing many concurrent projectso Define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement effective solutions in a timely mannero Communicate clearly and effectivelyo Read and understand contracts, specifications, technical drawings, procedures, and manualso Approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position, accept responsibility for own action, and follow through on commitments.o Use strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills through various stages of each project.Skills/Knowledge/Traitso Technical leadership and mentoring abilityo Sound engineering judgmento Decision-making skillso Ability to influence without direct authorityo Continuous improvement mindseto Positive attitudeo Strong work ethico Time management skillso Good written and verbal communication skillso Problem-solving skillso Works well under pressureo Team playerExperience & Educationo The well-qualified Design Engineer will have:o Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related engineering discipline.o 7+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.o Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from concept through manufacturing and testing.o Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables.o Experience mentoring or training engineers.o Advanced understanding of low- and medium-voltage systems (up to 38kV).o Advanced understanding of electrical protection and control systems.o Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft softwareo Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).o Hands-on experience in manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or field service of switchgear (preferred).JOB INSIGHTS:Must Have:
- 7+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
- Advanced technical expertise in low- and medium-voltage systems up to 38kV, including electrical protection and control systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects from concept through manufacturing and testing, with the ability to independently manage projects with minimal oversight.
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft software.
- Knowledge of relevant electrical standards, including IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, or similar applicable standards.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or field service of switchgear.
