Location: Derby, East MidlandsPermanent / Contract: PermanentSalary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annumOverviewEMBS Talent is working with a precision engineering business in the East Midlands to find a Senior Design Engineer for their gas turbine design team.The vacancy has arisen following the retirement of an experienced instrumentation designer, and our client wants to use the opportunity to bring in senior design capability that can also support the development of the wider team.The design team currently has seven engineers, ranging from graduates and placement students through to experienced designers.

This role sits above that group, providing technical guidance and helping to build the skills of less experienced colleagues while taking on complex design work in its own right.Your responsibilities will include:Creating design concepts, layouts, solid models and assembliesProducing detail drawings and design solutions to ISO and/or ASME standardsCreating Bills of Materials (BoMs) and performing calculations to verify designsChecking engineering drawings and design solutions produced by othersLiaising with manufacturers to ensure parts are made cost-effectivelyPreparing presentation material for design reviews with customers and internal project managersLiaising directly with customers to resolve design issues, on or off siteConducting DFMEA sessionsSupporting the Project Manager with time and resource estimating and allocationGuiding and advising junior members of the design team as part of day-to-day workWhat's in it for you?Stability / Longevity: A senior position within an established design team, with a clear role in shaping less experienced engineers as they developCompetitive salary: Competitive salary available depending on experienceHours: Days,Benefits:Senior role with genuine influence over design outcomesExposure to gas turbine and aerospace design workA mentoring element working alongside graduates and placement studentsOccasional travel to workshops and customer sites, including production and test facilitiesSuccessful applicants must be able to demonstrate:A degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent experience)Around 5–10 years of relevant design experienceGas turbine experience is essential; aerospace exposure and familiarity with Rolls-Royce processes are strongly preferredExperience of gas turbine instrumentation design would be beneficial but is not essentialStrong CAD ability, ideally in NX or SolidworksA sound understanding of mechanical design principles and analysis techniquesExperience of a PLM system such as Windchill is beneficialConfidence checking the work of others and, where needed, acting as team leader for a small group of designersStrong written and verbal communication skills for customer and internal stakeholder interactionA full UK driving licence and passport, as the role may involve occasional UK and overseas travelIf you are interested in the opportunity of Senior Design Engineer and believe you meet the criteria above, apply today to join our client's growing team in the East Midlands.About usEMBS is a specialist talent consultancy connecting exceptional engineering and technology professionals with some of the UK’s most prestigious advanced engineering businesses across Transportation, Energy and Defence.
