Senior Design System Engineer

The client is looking for a Senior Design System Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to build, evolve, and maintain scalable design systems for the bank's digital products across web and mobile platforms.The role will work closely with Product Designers, UX teams, Front-End Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, and Technology teams to translate design principles and UI specifications into reusable, accessible, high-performance components.The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in front-end development, design systems, component libraries, accessibility, design tokens, and modern UI engineering practices, with the ability to operate effectively in a large enterprise or regulated environment.Key Responsibilities:Design System Engineering:Design, develop, and maintain a scalable enterprise-grade design system.Build reusable UI components, patterns, templates, and utilities for banking applications.Translate Figma designs and design specifications into production-ready components.Establish and maintain design tokens covering colors, typography, spacing, grids, elevation, themes, and other UI properties.Ensure consistency of UI and interaction patterns across web and digital banking platforms.Develop responsive components that work across desktop, tablet, and mobile experiences.Maintain component documentation, usage guidelines, examples, and technical specifications.Front-End Development:Develop high-quality, reusable front-end components using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or similar technologies.Build component libraries using technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/SCSS.Create flexible APIs and component architectures that can be adopted by multiple product teams.Optimize components for performance, scalability, maintainability, and cross-browser compatibility.Implement themes, branding variations, and white-label capabilities where required.Accessibility & Usability:Ensure design-system components comply with WCAG accessibility standards and enterprise accessibility guidelines.Implement keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, semantic HTML, appropriate ARIA attributes, focus management, and accessible interaction patterns.Partner with UX and accessibility teams to identify and resolve usability and accessibility issues.Ensure digital banking experiences are inclusive and accessible to customers with different abilities.Banking & Enterprise Requirements:Design components and patterns suitable for secure and highly regulated banking environments.Understand the requirements of digital banking applications, customer portals, financial dashboards, payments, account management, and transactional workflows.Ensure components follow enterprise security, privacy, governance, and compliance requirements.Work within established technology architecture, development standards, and release processes.Support consistency across multiple banking products, channels, and platforms.Collaboration:Collaborate closely with Product Designers and UX teams to bridge the gap between design and engineering.Work with developers across product teams to drive adoption of the design system.Participate in design and architecture reviews.Provide technical guidance and best practices to front-end developers.Conduct code reviews and establish coding standards for design-system development.Work with Product Managers and business stakeholders to prioritize design-system capabilities and enhancements.Testing & Quality:Develop unit, integration, and visual regression tests for reusable components.Establish quality standards for component development and releases.Identify and resolve cross-browser, responsive, accessibility, and performance issues.Implement automated testing and CI/CD processes for the design system.Monitor component adoption and identify opportunities for standardization and improvement.Required Technical Skills:5–10 years of experience in front-end development / UI engineering / design system engineering.Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining enterprise design systems or component libraries.Strong knowledge of React, Angular, Vue, or equivalent modern front-end frameworks.Excellent knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and SCSS.Experience with Figma and collaborating with design teams.Strong understanding of design tokens, component architecture, responsive design, and UI patterns.Experience with Storybook or similar component documentation and development tools.Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Testing Library, or equivalent.Strong understanding of WCAG, accessibility standards, and accessible UI development.Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, npm/package management, and modern development workflows.Understanding of REST APIs and integration with back-end services.Knowledge of browser performance optimization and responsive web development.Preferred Skills:Experience working on banking, financial services, fintech, insurance, or other regulated enterprise applications.Experience developing design systems used across multiple applications or product teams.Knowledge of micro-frontends and enterprise front-end architecture.Experience with Web Components or similar component standards.Experience implementing theming and multi-brand design systems.Understanding of UX principles and interaction design.Experience working with Figma Variables, Styles, and design-token workflows.Familiarity with cloud platforms and enterprise application architecture.Knowledge of security principles relevant to web applications.Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Design, or a related discipline.Equivalent professional experience may be considered.Key
