Senior Director of Software Engineering

Employment Type: Full-time(Recruiting for our client, a leader in the software industry)We are hiring a Senior Director, Software Engineering to lead a large engineering organization responsible for a high-volume, customer-facing software platform.This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who has successfully managed managers and large technical teams, modernized complex legacy applications, and improved engineering quality, scalability, and operational performance.The role is not primarily hands-on coding, but requires strong technical depth and the ability to challenge architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and guide teams through large-scale modernization initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and mentor engineering managers and globally distributed software teams.Oversee an organization of approximately 40 software engineers, quality engineers, and solutions architects.Drive modernization of complex, high-volume transactional applications.Set engineering standards across architecture, security, compliance, quality, and delivery.Partner with architecture and product leadership on technical direction and product strategy.Guide cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and CI/CD practices.Lead large-scale software and data modernization initiatives.Manage technical debt, scalability, delivery risk, and platform reliability.Establish strong operating practices around incident response, engineering KPIs, and execution.Influence resourcing, budgets, technical priorities, and organizational processes.What We’re Looking For15+ years of engineering experience.5+ years in technical leadership roles managing managers and cross-functional teams.Proven experience modernizing complex legacy applications.Experience leading high-volume, mission-critical, customer-facing software products.Strong background in cloud-native architecture, AWS or similar platforms, APIs, and modern CI/CD.Demonstrated success leading globally distributed engineering teams.Strong technical program management and stakeholder leadership skills.Experience driving adoption of AI or agentic engineering tools is highly desirable.Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
