Location: Dubai, UAESector: Dry Bulk Shipping / Freight Trading / CommoditiesLevel: Senior Manager / Associate DirectorThe OpportunityAn established international shipping and commodities platform is looking to appoint a Senior Dry Bulk Cargo & Freight Trading professional to join its Dubai-based commercial team.The role is focused on cargo origination and business development across Southern African dry bulk trades, with responsibility for developing relationships, originating cargo and building a sustainable cargo book.Key ResponsibilitiesOriginate and develop dry bulk cargo business across Southern Africa, building a recurring cargo book.Develop direct relationships with mining companies, producers, exporters, cargo owners, traders and charterers.Identify new cargo opportunities and convert relationships into profitable freight business.Negotiate and fix sole cargoes, parcel shipments and other bulk cargo programmes.Work closely with chartering, freight trading and operations teams to secure appropriate tonnage and optimise freight economics.Maintain strong market knowledge across Southern African ports, producers, trade flows and freight dynamics.Develop business across a range of vessel sizes, from Handysize through to Capesize.Contribute to the wider commercial strategy and growth of the dry bulk platform.What We're Looking ForWe are specifically looking for someone with genuine cargo origination experience, rather than a purely vessel/tonnage-focused chartering background.Ideally, you will have:Strong experience in dry bulk shipping, freight trading or commodity-linked chartering.A proven track record across Southern African dry bulk markets.Established relationships with cargo owners, mining companies, producers and exporters.Experience personally originating cargo and building a recurring cargo book.Exposure to chrome ore, manganese ore, coal, iron ore or other mineral/bulk commodity flows would be particularly relevant.Strong commercial negotiation skills and understanding of dry bulk freight markets and vessel economics.Experience across Handy through Capesize markets.An entrepreneurial, relationship-driven approach with the ability to develop business independently.The Key Differentiator; This is not simply a vessel-chartering or execution role.
