SteerAI’s advanced AI-powered autonomy stack, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, empowers the logistics and defense industries by turning industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses that can handle complex off-road missions, transforming operations and protecting organizations' most important assets: their workforce.About the roleWe are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to take hands-on responsibility for the electrical and electronic systems of autonomous vehicle platforms. The role is centered on practical vehicle engineering, including electrical architecture, wiring harnesses, low-voltage power distribution, controllers, sensors, onboard communications, autonomy-compute interfaces, drive-by-wire interfaces, and subsystem integration. You will contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from requirements and concept development to detailed design, vehicle integration, verification, design release, and production support, with particular attention to reliable operation in demanding and military environments. As the team grows, this role may offer the opportunity to take on broader technical coordination responsibilities and potentially progress into a team lead position.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain vehicle electrical/electronic architectures, including low-voltage power distribution, protection, grounding and bonding, wiring harnesses, ECUs and controllers, data networks, sensors, communication equipment, autonomy compute, drive-by-wire interfaces, actuators, and payload interfaces.Translate system and vehicle requirements into electrical requirements, architecture definitions, interface control documents, schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, connector specifications, power budgets, BOMs, and verification requirements.Perform detailed electrical design and component selection for robust vehicle installations, considering load cases, voltage drop, circuit protection, thermal performance, environmental exposure, serviceability, manufacturability, and lifecycle support.Integrate autonomy sensors and vehicle subsystems, including cameras, LiDAR, radar, GNSS/INS, vehicle-state sensing, communication equipment, computing hardware, and their supporting power and data interfaces.Design and review vehicle communication architectures and interfaces using technologies such as CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, serial interfaces, diagnostics, and applicable radio or data-link systems.Design low-voltage power distribution and protection solutions, including power-source interfaces, DC/DC conversion, batteries, power distribution units, grounding, transient protection, and auxiliary or payload power.Apply EMC/EMI and electromagnetic environmental effects principles throughout the design, including grounding, bonding, shielding, filtering, cable segregation, connector selection, and enclosure/interface design.Develop EMC compliance strategies and verification plans against applicable defense and vehicle requirements, and support design reviews, pre-compliance activities, formal testing, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.Ensure designs meet electrical safety, environmental, reliability, maintainability, cybersecurity-related interface, configuration-control, manufacturing, and service requirements.Prepare and review electrical engineering deliverables for prototype build, vehicle integration, testing, design release, and production.Work closely with systems, autonomy software, mechanical, integration, validation, manufacturing, procurement, quality, and project teams to manage interfaces, dependencies, and technical risks.Support external engineering partners, component suppliers, and harness manufacturers by defining technical requirements and deliverables, reviewing outputs, and ensuring compliance with the controlled vehicle design baseline.Support prototype builds, vehicle commissioning, integration testing, production launch, root-cause analysis, field issue resolution, and continuous product improvement.Share technical expertise with colleagues and contribute to engineering methods, design guidelines, documentation practices, and reusable architecture solutions.QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.7+ years of relevant hands-on experience in vehicle electrical/electronic design and product development, preferably covering complete vehicle or mobile machinery systems rather than only standalone electronic products.Demonstrated experience developing vehicle E/E architectures and taking electrical designs from requirements and concept through detailed design, integration, verification, release, and production or field support.Strong practical understanding of low-voltage power distribution, circuit protection, grounding and bonding, wiring harness design, connectors, ECUs, sensors, actuators, and networked control systems.Experience designing vehicle wiring harnesses and installation solutions, including schematics, wiring diagrams, connector and wire selection, routing constraints, harness drawings, BOMs, and supplier/manufacturing coordination.Experience integrating autonomous, advanced-driver-assistance, or other complex vehicle subsystems, including sensor suites, compute platforms, drive-by-wire systems, communication equipment, and multidisciplinary hardware/software interfaces.Practical knowledge of vehicle communication protocols and interfaces, such as CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet, serial communications, diagnostics, and service interfaces.Strong capability in electrical schematics, wiring and harness documentation, interface control documents, design calculations, power budgets, BOMs, and configuration/change management.Experience with relevant electrical design tools, such as Capital, Zuken E3, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent platforms.Working knowledge of structured vehicle development processes, including requirements management, design reviews, DFMEA, verification planning, design release, and engineering change control.Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex vehicle electrical and integration problems using systematic analysis, measurement equipment, network diagnostics, vehicle data, and test evidence.Strong communication, collaboration, and technical ownership skills, with professional working proficiency in English and the ability to produce clear engineering specifications, reviews, and reports.Preferred ExperienceExperience with military vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles, off-road platforms, commercial vehicles, mobile machinery, robotics, or other safety-critical and environmentally demanding vehicle systems.Knowledge of applicable military or equivalent environmental and electrical requirements for vehicle systems and power architectures.Experience with military or defense-sector vehicle electrical systems and practical familiarity with applicable military or equivalent vehicle EMC standards, including EMC-conscious design principles, requirements tailoring, compliance matrix preparation, test planning, laboratory coordination, test witnessing, and test report review.Experience with hybrid or electric vehicle systems, high-voltage interfaces, energy storage, DC/DC conversion, or auxiliary power systems.Experience designing for low-volume production, supplier industrialization, harness manufacturing, end-of-line testing, serviceability, and field support.Interest in mentoring other engineers and the potential to grow into a future team lead role as the electrical engineering team and vehicle programs expand. What we offerWe offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the Autonomous Robotics industry. Our work culture is collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on innovation and personal growth. If you're passionate about advancing the frontiers of Autonomous Robotics and eager to leave a lasting mark in this domain, seize the opportunity and apply today to join us in sculpting the future of this dynamic field!
