Senior Embedded Systems Lead

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Lead to take technical ownership of complex embedded systems within advanced defence and mission-critical environments.The role combines hands-on embedded software engineering with system-level technical leadership, with a strong focus on imaging and vision systems, cameras, video applications and hardware/software integration.The successful candidate will take ownership from initial customer requirements through system specification, architecture, development, integration, verification and final validation, while providing technical direction to the wider engineering team.This is not a pure software development or management role. We are looking for someone comfortable working at both system architecture and hands-on engineering level.Key ResponsibilitiesTake system-level technical ownership from customer requirements through design, development, integration and validation.Translate customer and operational needs into clear system/software requirements, specifications and technical architectures.Design and develop embedded software using C/C++, working closely with embedded hardware, processors and peripheral devices.Develop and integrate imaging and vision systems, including cameras, video streams, image/video processing and associated interfaces.Define system/software architecture, communication interfaces and hardware/software integration strategies.Support camera and device interfaces, drivers, communication protocols and embedded processor-based platforms.Apply structured systems engineering processes across requirements, architecture, design reviews, integration, verification and validation.Lead complex system integration and troubleshoot issues across hardware, software and embedded components.Provide technical direction, design guidance and mentoring to software engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on engineering.Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensure consistency across system, hardware and software architecture.Required ExperienceApproximately 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, embedded software or system engineering.Strong hands-on C/C++ embedded development experience.Significant experience with imaging or vision systems, including cameras, video acquisition/streaming, image/video processing or electro-optical systems.Experience working on defence, military, aerospace or similarly complex mission-critical systems.Proven system-level engineering experience, taking complex systems from requirements and specifications through architecture, development, integration and validation.Strong understanding of hardware/software integration, embedded processors/CPUs and device interfaces.Experience with communication protocols and preferably camera/device drivers.Strong understanding of structured systems engineering and development lifecycle methodologies.Previous experience providing technical leadership, architecture guidance and mentoring to engineering teams.
