With a mission to redefine digital transformation, we combine sovereign capabilities with scalable, high-performance compute infrastructure, positioning itself at the forefront of AI innovation in the Middle East and beyond.The OpportunityThe Senior Engineer – Cloud Data Platform Services will be responsible for the engineering, implementation and operational management of Core42's customer-facing cloud platform services, including Kubernetes as a Service (KaaS) and Managed Data Platform offerings.You will play a critical role in designing, deploying and operating cloud-native platform services built on Kubernetes, OpenShift and OpenStack technologies while ensuring scalability, reliability, security and operational excellence. The role requires deep hands-on expertise across managed database technologies, messaging platforms, caching services, automation frameworks and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.Working closely with Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations, Security and Architecture teams, you will contribute to the evolution of Core42's sovereign cloud platform capabilities and customer-facing managed services.Your Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement and operate Kubernetes as a Service (KaaS) and Managed Data Platform services for cloud customers.Engineer and maintain managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kafka, Redis and related platform services using Kubernetes-native architectures and operators.Design and implement database automation capabilities including backup, restore, failover, replication, clustering, scaling, sharding and disaster recovery mechanisms.Develop and operate SRE practices for cloud platform services, ensuring high availability, reliability and operational excellence.Implement and manage Kubernetes Operators and supporting technologies including CloudNativePG, Crunchy Data, Percona, Zalando, Strimzi and Redis Operators.Design and maintain observability capabilities including monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing and performance analytics.Troubleshoot, review and optimise Kubernetes Operators, Controllers, CRDs and platform automation components.Support customer-facing production environments through incident management, operational readiness reviews, maintenance planning and escalation management.Implement secure operational controls including identity management, TLS/mTLS, credential rotation, audit logging, encryption and vulnerability remediation.Define and maintain backup, disaster recovery, failover, rollback and maintenance procedures across cloud platform services.Integrate platform services with cloud infrastructure components including OpenStack, OpenShift, IAM, DNS, PKI, networking, storage and load balancing services.Build and enhance platform automation using Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps frameworks.Identify reliability risks, technical gaps and operational improvement opportunities across platform services.Collaborate with engineering, architecture and security teams to continuously improve Core42 cloud platform capabilities.What we're looking for(a) Required skills / qualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.8+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, SRE or PaaS Engineering roles.Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift and cloud-native platform technologies.Experience working with OpenStack environments, including compute, networking, storage, virtualization and identity services.Experience designing, deploying and operating managed database services including PostgreSQL and MySQL.Strong understanding of Kubernetes Operators, Controllers, CRDs, reconciliation loops and automation frameworks.Experience implementing highly available, production-grade cloud services with robust backup, disaster recovery and failover capabilities.Strong Linux, networking, storage, security and infrastructure troubleshooting skills.Experience implementing monitoring, observability, logging and alerting solutions for large-scale distributed systems.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.(b) Preferred skills / qualificationsExperience with PostgreSQL operators including CloudNativePG, Crunchy Data, Percona or Zalando Operator frameworks.Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra, OpenSearch, ClickHouse or similar distributed data technologies.Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, Loki, OpenTelemetry, ELK or OpenSearch observability stacks.Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Argo CD, Flux, Crossplane, Cluster API or GitOps-based platform automation.Experience with software-defined storage platforms including Cinder, Manila, Ceph or S3-compatible storage solutions.Experience building and operating multi-tenant cloud services within enterprise, sovereign cloud or regulated environments.Knowledge of cloud platform security, compliance and governance best practices.Relevant certifications in Kubernetes, OpenShift, OpenStack, Cloud Platforms or related technologies are advantageous.What working at Core42 offersWith a diverse team of 1,100+ employees from 68 nationalities, we foster an inclusive, innovative and collaborative environment.
