The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware design and development, with a proven track record of taking products from initial concept through to production.This position requires strong technical expertise, hands-on engineering ability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple engineering and product teams.Employment Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment-based visa sponsorship is not available for this position, now or in the future.This is an on-site position based in Buffalo Grove, IL. Relocation assistance is available.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop hardware projects from initial concept through to production.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, firmware, mechanical engineering, sourcing, and project management.Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer.Prepare PCB designs and projects for manufacturing.Prototype and test new hardware designs.Debug, troubleshoot, and validate electronic circuits.Participate in board bring-up alongside the firmware engineering team.Develop proof-of-concept firmware applications to test hardware functionality where required; experience in this area is a plus.Produce detailed design specifications, schematics, and supporting technical documentation.Work with suppliers to source electronic components and finished assemblies.Manage project requirements and deadlines, working with Project Management to create and maintain project schedules.Break functional requirements down into clearly defined engineering tasks.Serve as lead hardware engineer on projects where appropriate.Conduct peer design reviews.Provide technical input into product planning and new product concepts.Mentor and support other engineers.Skills and Qualifications5+ years of hands-on hardware development experience with a proven track record of delivering hardware products.5+ years of PCB design experience using ECAD tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent.2+ years of hands-on PCB layout experience.Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.Extensive circuit prototyping experience.Strong circuit testing, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.Circuit simulation experience is advantageous.Experience with advanced PCB design techniques, including impedance control and length matching.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work autonomously and meet project deadlines.Collaborative, flexible, and positive approach to working with others.Proven ability to deliver within agreed timelines in a fast-paced engineering environment.Relevant ExperienceExperience designing microcontroller- and/or microprocessor-based systems.Proven experience taking hardware projects from concept through to production.Ability to diagnose complex issues spanning hardware, firmware, and system software.Hands-on experience using instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers to debug embedded systems at the hardware level.Experience with automotive OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) and vehicle communication protocols is advantageous.Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this role, the employee will regularly be required to sit and work at a desk or engineering workbench for prolonged periods.Please Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
