Validate performance under real-world conditions, bridge theory and hardware behaviour, and turn test data into engineering improvements. Not a routine testing role.ResponsibilitiesDesign & run advanced test campaigns: dynamic tracking, variable environments, diverse targetsCharacterise beam–target interaction, energy efficiency, peak & sustained power performanceImprove beam quality, delivery efficiency & pointing stability; mitigate thermal blooming, wavefront distortion, optical degradation, power drop-offAnalyse datasets; build Python/MATLAB tools; correlate results with modelsLead root-cause investigations; feed engineering-grade recommendations to design teamsValidate physical models; refine performance predictionsOwn Class 4 laser safety; conduct lab & controlled outdoor testing; support field trialsProduce qualification documentation & stakeholder-ready technical reportsRequirements✅ 3+ years hands-on high-power laser experience (fibre, diode, solid-state)✅ Proven testing/optimisation track record✅ Strong physics-first analysis; advanced Python / MATLAB✅ Calorimeters, beam profilers, wavefront sensors, fast photodiodes, spectrometers✅ Class 4 laser safety expertise✅ EU citizen, eligible for German security clearance, on-site BerlinBonus: Optomechanics / galvo / FSM; beam stabilisation; defence / directed energy background; thermal & propagation modelling
