Senior Java / AS400 ConsultantLocation: Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAEExperience: 10+ Years Overall | 3–4+ Years UAE ExperienceEmployment Type: Full-TimeAbout the RoleWe are looking for a Senior Java / AS400 Developer to join the technology team. The role will be responsible for developing, enhancing, maintaining and supporting enterprise applications across modern Java technologies and established IBM i/AS400 environments.The ideal candidate will be a senior technical professional who can contribute hands on to development and production support while also guiding and coordinating teammembers and supporting technical decision-making.Key Responsibilities• Develop, enhance and maintain enterprise applications using Java and relatedtechnologies.• Work extensively with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments and applications.• Develop and optimize SQL queries, database procedures and data-relatedsolutions.• Work with existing enterprise and legacy applications, ensuring reliability andcontinuity of business-critical systems.• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effectivetechnical solutions.• Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis and provide timelyproduction support.• Support system integration and interfaces between applications and enterprisesystems.• Participate in application enhancements, upgrades, testing and deploymentactivities.• Review existing code and recommend improvements for performance,maintainability and reliability.• Collaborate with business users, technical teams and other stakeholders tounderstand requirements and resolve issues.• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.• Support task allocation, technical coordination and day-to-day activities withinthe development team.• Prepare technical documentation and maintain appropriate development andsupport documentation.• Contribute to improving development practices, application stability and overallsystem efficiency.Required Skills & Experience• 10+ years of overall professional IT/software development experience.• 3–4+ years of professional experience in the UAE.• Strong hands-on experience in Java development.• Strong experience with SQL and database-driven applications.• Hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries servers and environments.• Experience working with enterprise applications and legacy systems.• Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving capabilities.• Ability to understand existing systems, analyze technical issues and implementsolutions.• Good understanding of software development lifecycle and applicationmaintenance.• Strong communication and collaboration skills.• Ability to work as a senior technical member of a team and guide/handle teamactivities.Good to Have• Experience with COBOL / COBOL-based AS400 applications.• Experience with DB2 for i.• Experience integrating Java applications with IBM i/AS400 systems.• Experience in application modernization or migration from legacy platforms.• Experience in automotive, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain or distributionenvironments.• Experience working in a structured enterprise/corporate environment.• Exposure to Agile development methodologies and modern developmentpractices.Candidate ProfileThe successful candidate will be a senior hands-on developer with strong Java, SQLand IBM i/AS400 experience, who is also capable of taking ownership of technicalactivities, guiding team members and acting as a senior technical resource within theteam.COBOL experience will be considered an added advantage.
