Position: Senior Laboratory Teaching Engineer - Mechanical Engineering Department - School of Sciences and EngineeringReports to: Technical Operations Manager and Industrial LiaisonPurpose: The Senior Laboratory Teaching Engineer will bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and practical application by managing laboratory operations and actively participating in the teaching process. He or She will be responsible for the full lifecycle of lab maintenance and safety, while simultaneously serving as an academic facilitator. The role involves teaching students how to conduct experiments, grading technical assignments, supporting capstone research, and developing laboratory learning materials to ensure a high-quality academic experience.

Responsibilities

Instructional and Curricular Support:Assist course instructors in facilitating learning activities inside and outside the classroomConduct revision sessions, problem-solving tutorials, and lab demonstrations for undergraduate studentsLead in-class discussions and group activities to reinforce theoretical conceptsPrepare course materials, handouts, and laboratory manuals under the guidance of the faculty memberParticipate in grading assignments, lab reports, and technical projects, where applicable and under faculty supervisionLaboratory Operations and Maintenance:Supervise the daily operations of assigned labs, ensuring equipment is calibrated, safe, and ready for teaching sessionsOperate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory assets, such as machines, software, tools, and infrastructurePerform preventive maintenance and coordinate with external vendors for major repairs or upgradesInstall and configure specialized engineering software and hardwareResearch and Student Project Support:Provide advanced technical guidance to students working on senior projects, or capstones, and technical support to graduate studentsSupport faculty research by setting up complex experimental apparatuses and running simulation modelsAssist in data acquisition, analysis, and the interpretation of experimental results for research publicationsSafety, Logistics and Procurement:Implement and enforce strict Health and Safety protocols, ensuring students wear appropriate PPE and handle hazardous materials correctlyManage the inventory of consumables and spare parts, ensuring stock availability for the academic termConduct market surveys and obtain technical quotations for the procurement of new equipmentOrganize the laboratory schedule to accommodate conflicting course requirements and student project needsGeneral Support:Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Education Requirements:B.Sc. in mechanical engineering with a major in design and production or material engineering5 years of relevant hands-on experience in a technical or laboratory environment.

Technical Skills

Working knowledge of domain-specific tools, e.g., CAD software, Linux or Windows Server, hand tools, and measurement devicesSkills: Communication: Good command of English and Arabic, written and spokenOperational: Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenanceInterpersonal: Ability to interact effectively with students and facultyInstructional: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students, with patience and aptitude for teachingProblem Solving: Advanced diagnostic skills for sophisticated machinery and software systemsDocumentation: Ability to write technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety manualsSpecialized Knowledge: Certification or deep expertise in specific areas, such as MCSE, VLSI, CNC operation, and Cleanroom protocolsPedagogical: Ability to design new experiments and develop comprehensive lab manuals or handoutsThis position is open until October, 8th, 2026Placement is based on the candidate’s experience and skills.
