Role DescriptionA Senior Lecturer / Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting and delivering high-quality teaching, academic activities, student supervision, course administration, and educational support within a university, college, or higher-education institution. The role may involve delivering lectures and tutorials, assisting with course development and assessments, mentoring students, supporting academic research, and contributing to the effective operation of academic programs.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, laboratory sessions, and other teaching activities as assigned.Assist lecturers, professors, and academic staff with course preparation and delivery.Develop and update lecture materials, presentations, tutorials, assignments, exercises, and other learning resources.Support curriculum development, course reviews, and academic program improvement.Assist with student assessments, examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, and grading activities.Provide constructive academic feedback and guidance to students.Support students with academic questions, coursework, research activities, and learning challenges.Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects or research activities where applicable.Conduct academic research and contribute to research projects, publications, conferences, and scholarly activities.Assist in preparing research proposals, literature reviews, research reports, presentations, and academic publications.Maintain accurate student records, attendance records, assessment results, course documentation, and academic reports.Organize tutorials, office hours, academic consultations, workshops, and student-support sessions.Monitor student progress and identify students who may require additional academic support.Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, examination boards, and institutional activities.Coordinate with lecturers, professors, faculty members, administrative staff, and other academic departments.Assist with examination preparation, invigilation, marking, moderation, and academic administration.Support online and blended learning through learning-management systems and educational technologies.Ensure teaching and assessment activities follow institutional policies, academic standards, and quality-assurance requirements.Promote academic integrity, ethical conduct, inclusive learning, and a positive educational environment.Maintain current knowledge of developments, research, technologies, and teaching methodologies within the relevant academic discipline.Participate in academic conferences, seminars, workshops, professional-development activities, and community-engagement initiatives.Support student orientation, academic advising, extracurricular activities, and career-development programs where required.Contribute to continuous improvement of teaching quality, student engagement, academic outcomes, and program effectiveness.QualificationsBachelor's, Master's, or doctoral degree in the relevant academic discipline, depending on institutional and position requirements.A Master's degree or PhD is typically preferred for Senior Lecturer-level appointments.Previous teaching, tutoring, academic-support, or higher-education experience is preferred.Strong knowledge of teaching methodologies, curriculum development, assessment, and academic practices.Strong research, analytical, academic-writing, and critical-thinking skills.Excellent communication, presentation, mentoring, and interpersonal abilities.Experience with student supervision, research projects, publications, or academic administration is advantageous.Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), online teaching platforms, academic databases, and educational technologies.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant academic or research software.Strong organizational, time-management, classroom-management, and coordination skills.Ability to work effectively with students, faculty members, researchers, and administrative teams.Professional, ethical, approachable, collaborative, and student-focused.Strong commitment to academic excellence, teaching quality, student development, research contribution, academic integrity, professional development, and continuous improvement.
