Apply & track with Apply EdgeSenior Legal Counsel – Capital MarketsLocation: London – 4/5 days a week in officeAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Counsel to join a highly regarded Global Markets Legal team supporting Sales & Trading activities across the EMEA region.This role will partner closely with front office teams, providing legal advice and strategic support across a broad range of rates, credit, derivatives and financing products. The successful candidate will act as a trusted adviser to business stakeholders, helping to navigate complex regulatory requirements whilst supporting commercial objectives and managing legal risk.This position offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders, complex cross-border matters and strategic initiatives within a fast-paced international financial markets environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice to Sales & Trading businesses across EMEA.Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of documentation, including:Electronic trading agreementsExchange and platform documentationClearing arrangementsFX documentationClient-facing trading and financing documentationAdvise on legal, regulatory, structuring and execution matters relating to Global Markets activities.Interpret and apply complex regulatory frameworks, including MiFID II, MAR and EMIR.Support new product launches, trading initiatives and business growth projects.Assess legal, regulatory and reputational risks and provide appropriate solutions and escalation recommendations.Monitor market and regulatory developments affecting Sales & Trading businesses.Support dispute management, remediation programmes and governance initiatives.Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across legal, compliance, risk, operations and front office teams.Contribute to legal process improvement, knowledge management and technology initiatives, including the adoption of AI tools within legal operations.Provide day-to-day legal support on transactional, strategic and operational matters.Required Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years' post-qualification experience.Strong experience gained within a leading law firm and/or financial institution.Deep understanding of Global Markets, Sales & Trading and Capital Markets activities.Strong working knowledge of key regulatory frameworks including MiFID II, MAR and EMIR.Experience drafting, negotiating and advising on capital markets and trading documentation.Proven ability to advise on complex, multi-jurisdictional matters.Experience operating in a fast-paced in-house legal environment.Ability to provide practical, real-time legal advice aligned to trading and business timelines.Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to diverse audiences.Demonstrable risk management capability and sound commercial judgement.Experience using AI-enabled legal technologies and innovative approaches to legal problem-solving.
