We are looking for a lawyer who can understand the commercial intent behind a transaction, identify and manage legal risks, and work with management and external counsel to take matters through to closure.The role will work across a diverse group of activities spanning education, infrastructure, real estate, technology ventures, research collaborations, commercial contracts and new projects.The RoleThe Senior Manager – Legal & Corporate Affairs will act as an important internal legal resource for the organisation and will:Review, negotiate and help structure commercial agreements, MoUs, leases, vendor and service contracts, technology agreements, partnerships and institutional collaborations.Support corporate transactions, investments, new ventures, property transactions and major infrastructure projects.Coordinate with and manage the organisation’s external lawyers, law firms, consultants and specialists, ensuring matters are followed through effectively.Work with senior management on corporate law, contractual, regulatory and governance matters.Support legal due diligence and documentation for acquisitions, investments, financing and strategic projects.Oversee litigation and disputes from the organisation’s side, while working with specialist external advocates where court representation is required.Develop stronger internal systems for contracts, documentation, compliance, legal records and risk management.Provide practical legal advice that balances legal protection with commercial realities and speed of execution.The CandidateWe would particularly like to meet candidates who:Hold an LL.B./B.A. LL.B. or equivalent qualification, preferably from a leading law school or university.Have approximately 6–12 years of relevant experience, with some flexibility for exceptional candidates.Have strong exposure to corporate law, commercial contracts, transactions, real estate, infrastructure or general corporate advisory.May currently be working with a leading law firm, corporate legal department, financial institution, infrastructure company or other professionally managed organisation.Are interested in building a long-term career as an in-house corporate legal professional rather than pursuing a predominantly courtroom-based practice.Can independently understand agreements, negotiate positions and coordinate complex matters involving multiple stakeholders.Possess strong written communication, commercial judgement and attention to detail.What Makes the Opportunity InterestingThis is not intended to be a narrowly defined legal-compliance position.REC and its associated entities are entering a significant phase of growth involving new educational initiatives, large infrastructure and real-estate developments, technology ventures, research and industry partnerships, and new corporate structures.The person joining us will therefore have the opportunity to work directly with leadership on a wide variety of transactions and gradually develop into a key legal and corporate affairs resource for the group.We are looking for someone who combines the discipline of a good lawyer with the mindset of a business professional — someone who enjoys making transactions happen while protecting the organisation’s long-term interests.
