Senior Manager – Legal (Litigation & Recovery) · Mumbai · Reports to General Counsel / Head – LegalThe mandateOur client is a large, listed Indian building materials company with a brand that goes back several decades, a national dealer and retail network, and manufacturing in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Most of its sales go through dealers and project customers on credit. As a result, it carries a steady stream of recovery matters, consumer complaints, and commercial and labour cases, spread across forums and handled by many external counsel. The Company wants one owner for this whole caseload. This person will know every matter, run the important ones personally, and turn disputes into money recovered and exposure closed.What you will ownPortfolio and controlSet up a single litigation and recovery register within the first 90 days. It will cover every pending matter with forum, counsel, exposure, next date and a realistic outcome, and will be reviewed monthly with Finance. [confirm: current number of matters]Recover ₹[confirm] crore of aged dealer and project receivables within 18 months, using Section 138 NI Act complaints, Order XXXVII summary suits, arbitration and Section 9 IBC applications, whichever gets the best result.Rationalise the external counsel panel and cut outside legal spend by [confirm]%. This means fixed-fee arrangements, clear briefs and accountability for every appearance.Hands-on practicePersonally draft or settle the key pleadings, legal notices, replies and written statements. You will not only brief counsel and forward their work.Attend key hearings, mediations and settlement meetings in person, including outside Mumbai when a matter needs it.Defend consumer commission cases about product quality and installation, working with the QC and customer care teams to build the technical record.PreventionFeed dispute patterns back into dealer, project and supply agreements. This includes security instruments, personal guarantees, credit terms, jurisdiction and arbitration clauses.Train regional sales and credit teams on documentation that holds up in a recovery action.What you bringMust haveLLB and enrolment with a State Bar Council.8–12 years' post-qualification experience, at least 4 of them in-house at a manufacturing, consumer durables or building products company. [confirm: PQE band]A personal record of handling Section 138 NI Act complaints and commercial recovery suits through to decree or settlement, with verifiable matters on the CV.Has managed a portfolio of 100+ live matters across multiple states and forums. [confirm: threshold]Experience instructing and managing external counsel on fees, briefing and outcomes.Strongly preferredArbitration practice under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, including enforcement of awards.IBC exposure as an operational creditor, and MSMED Act claims.Consumer commission practice at the district and state levels.Early career in a litigation chamber or disputes practice in Mumbai.What we look for beyond the CVYou do the work yourself. Anyone should be able to ask for the status of any matter and get an answer the same day.Reporting and structureReports to the General Counsel / Head – Legal. Leads [confirm: team size, e.g. 1–2 legal executives]. Works closely with Finance and Credit Control, regional sales heads, Customer Care and QC, HR (on labour matters) and the company secretarial team.CompensationCommensurate with experience. The CTC band is not published. The Company prefers candidates with a notice period of 60 days or less.
