This role is responsible for mechanical design, 3D modeling, specifications, design reviews, test planning, prototype evaluation, stress analysis, trade studies, failure analysis, and technical reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering experience, advanced ProE/Creo skills, defense or aerospace industry experience, and hands-on experience designing and testing mechanisms such as transmissions, rotating machinery, gearing, motors, actuators, hoisting systems, or winching equipment.The selected candidate will be responsible for:Designing and developing mechanical equipment and systemsCreating complex 3D models using ProE/CreoConverting 3D models into 2D drawings and related engineering documentationApplying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to mechanical designsProducing specifications and outline designsPreparing reports and supporting design reviewsManaging engineering projects using engineering principles and techniquesRecommending design modifications based on prototype test resultsDefining and supporting test programsPerforming stress analysis, trade studies, and failure analysisPlanning and designing new production processesApplying mechanics of materials principles to design and analysis workSupporting design and development of mechanisms, gearing, electromechanical systems, motors, actuators, and related assembliesAssisting with sustaining engineering projects and activitiesPerforming electrical and interconnect design as requiredCreating technical reports and engineering documentationCoordinating with draftsmen, technicians, engineers, and other team members on specific assignmentsSupporting cross-functional engineering, production, quality, and testing teamsPerforming other duties as assignedThe selected candidate will also possess:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent requiredBachelor's degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering preferred6+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience requiredDefense or aerospace industry experience requiredAdvanced and demonstrated ProE/Creo capability requiredExperience with mechanical systems requiredExperience with rotating machinery preferredExperience with transmissions, mechanisms, clutches, gears, drums, cabling, hoisting equipment, or winching equipment preferredExperience with electromechanical systems, motors, and/or actuators requiredExperience with both design and testing of mechanisms requiredNew product design experience preferredExperience performing stress analysis preferredExperience performing trade studies preferredExperience performing failure analysis preferredExperience defining or supporting test programs preferredGD&T experience requiredAbility to create specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation requiredAbility to work independently while taking direction from a technical lead requiredStrong mechanical design and analytical skills requiredStrong written and verbal communication skills requiredAbility to work onsite in Whippany, NJAbility to support a full-time opportunityPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while designing, modeling, reviewing drawings, preparing reports, and completing engineering documentationAbility to use hands and fingers for keyboard use, CAD modeling, documentation, analysis, drawing review, and standard engineering tasksAbility to review drawings, models, specifications, test data, design documentation, reports, and computer screens for extended periodsAbility to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workdayAbility to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, engineering, lab, production, or testing areas as neededAbility to work with mechanical assemblies, prototypes, tooling, test equipment, engineering hardware, and related components as neededAbility to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office materials, engineering supplies, hardware components, or test materials as neededAbility to wear required PPE and follow all site, engineering, production, lab, testing, and safety proceduresAbility to maintain accuracy, focus, and attention to detail while supporting engineering design, testing, and analysis workSalary Range: $120,000 to $190,000/yearFor immediate and confidential consideration, please email your resume to charding@defensesearchusa.com or call 858.279.4902.More information can be found at www.defensesearchusa.com.
