قدّم وتابع مع أبلاي إيدجSenior Mechanical Design Engineer – Motor Vehicle / Automotive – £60k to £65k – CambridgeshireRole: Senior Mechanical Design EngineerIndustry: Specialist Engineering / Heavy Equipment / ManufacturingLocation: CambridgeshireSalary: £60,000–£65,000Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–FridayHoliday: 22 days + Bank Holidays + Birthday OffReports To: Head of EngineeringCompany OverviewOur client is a specialist engineering and manufacturing business designing and producing complex, heavy-duty mechanical equipment for demanding applications.The company operates in a highly technical, project-led environment, developing specialist engineered products from initial concept and design through to manufacture, testing and delivery.They are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design projects and work closely with manufacturing, quality, procurement, supply chain and the wider engineering team.The RoleYou'll be responsible for developing robust, cost-effective and manufacturable mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to production.This is a hands-on engineering position covering 3D CAD, detailed manufacturing drawings, engineering calculations, design validation, material selection, prototyping and continuous product improvement.You'll also provide technical leadership within the design function, supporting and mentoring less-experienced engineers while helping maintain high engineering standards.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop mechanical designs from initial concept through to manufacture.Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, components and manufacturing drawings.Carry out engineering calculations and define appropriate tolerances and fits.Apply FEA and engineering analysis where appropriate.Assess designs for stress, heat, fluid flow, vibration and other operating conditions.Select suitable materials and manufacturing methods.Develop and evaluate prototypes to validate functionality, performance, safety and durability.Ensure designs meet relevant engineering standards, legislation and safety requirements.Work closely with manufacturing, production, quality, procurement and suppliers.Investigate engineering and manufacturing problems and identify root causes.Improve existing products for performance, reliability, manufacturability, weight and cost.Apply value-engineering principles and consider the commercial impact of design decisions.Manage design activities, priorities and technical deliverables against project timescales.Provide technical direction and mentor less-experienced engineers.Produce technical specifications, documentation and engineering reports.Support continuous improvement across products, processes and engineering practices.What We're Looking ForDegree or comparable qualification/accreditation in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.Previous experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or similar.Strong experience taking mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture.Strong competency with industry-standard 3D CAD software.Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.Good understanding of engineering calculations, tolerances, fits and technical specifications.Experience with FEA and design validation would be advantageous.Strong understanding of metals, fabrication, machining, welding and finishing processes.Good knowledge of Design for Manufacture principles.Experience working closely with manufacturing and production teams.Strong mechanical problem-solving and root-cause-analysis skills.Commercial awareness around cost, value engineering and manufacturing lead times.Experience leading design activities and providing technical guidance to other engineers.Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, suppliers and customers.The OpportunityThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take a senior role within a specialist engineering and heavy-equipment manufacturing environment.You'll have significant ownership across the complete product lifecycle and the opportunity to influence product performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost and future engineering development.If this is of interest please apply on LinkedIn or email george.taylor@everec.co.uk
