The Blood Transfusion Service is a critical component of the Department, providing essential blood products and transfusion services to hospital patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Job Description
Perform routine and complex immunohaematology testing including blood grouping, antibody screening, antibody identification, antibody titration, red cell phenotyping, and crossmatching procedures.Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results through the Laboratory Information System (LIS).Support 24-hour Blood Transfusion Service operations, including rostered shifts, weekends, public holidays, and on-call duties.Receive, process, store, and issue blood components from Health Science Authority (HSA) according to established protocols.Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of blood bank equipment; coordinate equipment servicingManage inventory of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies; ensure adequate stock levels.Maintain laboratory documentation, records, and standard operating procedures; initiate SOP development and revision.Maintain compliance with quality management systems, accreditation requirements and regulatory standards.Participate in quality assurance activities, quality control programs, proficiency testing, and External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS).Provide training, supervision and guidance to junior staffEngage in continuing professional education and contribute to departmental educational activities, scientific updates, and training programmes.Undertake any other duties assigned to support operational and service requirements.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or equivalent qualification.Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment, quick thinker and an effective problem solver. Calm, decisive, and resilient in high-pressure situations.Attention to detail, ability to prioritise workload, be well organised and multi-task in a smart and timely fashion. Possess strong analytical, communication, written and presentation skills. Ability to work independently, in a team and across teams with minimal supervision. Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop strong working relationship at various levels.Proactive attitude and determination to ensure required outcomes are achieved and takes responsibility.Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and nurture the team to meet institutional goals.Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new software and other relevant programs.
