The Microbiology Laboratory is an essential component of the Department, providing comprehensive diagnostic microbiology services including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and molecular microbiology to support patient care and infection control 7 days a week.
Job Description
Perform microbiological bench work such as bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, molecular microbiology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpretation of result.Implement and supervise laboratory automation implementation and operationReview, investigate, and resolve analytical, technical, and quality-related issues to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results through the Laboratory Information System (LIS).Support the provision of microbiology service, including rostered shifts, weekends, public holidays, and on-call duties where required.Maintain compliance with laboratory quality management systems, accreditation requirements, and regulatory standards.Adhere to biosafety, biosecurity, workplace safety, and infection prevention requirements, including practices related to BSL-2+ laboratories.Participate in quality assurance activities, quality control programmes, and External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS).Assist in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and inventory management of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.Support laboratory documentation, record management, and maintenance of standard operating procedures.Provide training, supervision and guidance to junior staff.Engage in continuing professional education and contribute to departmental educational activities, scientific updates, and training programmes.Undertake any other duties assigned by the department to support operational and service requirements.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or equivalent qualification.Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment, quick thinker and an effective problem solver. Calm, decisive, and resilient in high-pressure situations.Attention to detail, ability to prioritise workload, be well organised and multi-task in a smart and timely fashion. Possess strong analytical, communication, written and presentation skills. Ability to work independently, in a team and across teams with minimal supervision. Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop strong working relationship at various levels.Proactive attitude and determination to ensure required outcomes are achieved and takes responsibility.Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and nurture the team to meet institutional goals.Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new software and other relevant programs.
