The driving force behind that work, our people, are diverse, creative, and passionate, raising the bar for excellence on a regular basis.Role OverviewWe are seeking a senior Performance Engineer (SFIA Level 7 aligned) to ensure the scalability, stability, and performance of a large-scale event and webinar platform.This role is critical to supporting high-traffic live events, where system failures or latency directly impact attendee experience, client value, and business operations. The successful candidate will work across the full technology stack (application, database, and infrastructure) to proactively identify bottlenecks, validate improvements, and ensure platform readiness ahead of major events.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and execute realistic performance tests (load, spike, soak, concurrency) simulating real user behavior (registrations, live sessions, chat, admin actions, etc.).Analyze and profile system performance across:Node.js / Express APIsMySQL Aurora (SQL queries, indexing, transactions)Redis caching layerAWS services (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, SQS, API Gateway)Investigate real-time system behavior, including websockets, live chat, and webinar streaming under load.Evaluate video playback services (Puppeteer/headless browser), including performance, scaling, and failure recovery.Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements such as:Query optimizations and indexing.Caching strategies.Queue management and throttling.Autoscaling configurations.Build performance dashboards and reports, linking technical metrics to user impact (latency, errors, system saturation).Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to implement and validate performance improvements.Define automated performance testing frameworks integrated into CI/CD (Jenkins) and event readiness processes.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong experience with performance testing tools (e.g., k6, JMeter, Gatling, Artillery).Deep expertise in:Node.js performance profiling.SQL/Aurora optimization.Redis cache analysis.Distributed systems troubleshooting.Solid understanding of AWS ecosystem, including: ECS/Fargate, Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, CloudWatch, VPC.Experience working with high-concurrency or real-time platforms (websockets, live streaming, SaaS).Ability to create realistic test scenarios and datasets.Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.Expected OutcomesDefined performance baselines for critical user journeys with risk indicators.Detailed bottleneck analysis reports with root cause and validated solutions.Reusable performance testing frameworks for regression and event readiness.Measurable improvements in:API response times.Database performance.System throughput and scaling.Cache efficiency.Operating Level (SFIA Level 7 Expectations)Operates with high autonomy, making decisions in complex, multi-system environments.Influences architecture, performance strategy, and delivery standards.Handles high-impact, business-critical scenarios, especially during live events.Communicates effectively with engineering, product, and leadership teams.Drives long-term improvements through documentation, observability, and best practices.Tech Environment (Context)Frontend: React (Web), React Native (Mobile).Backend: Node.js / Express, Socket.IO.Data: MySQL Aurora, Redis.Cloud: AWS (Lambda, ECS/Fargate, SQS, API Gateway, VPC).Other: Puppeteer (video services), Jenkins CI/CD, WebSockets, Microservices architecture.What do we offer?25 holiday days per year.1066 RON monthly budget in Benefit Online Platform.Life Insurance cover.The employees working on bank holidays will be benefitting either of a paid day off in the next 30 days + 100% of the hourly base salary for that specific day OR 200% of the hourly base salary for that specific day.Reimbursement for eyeglasses – max 1500 RON to be claimed every 3 years.Childbirth allowance of 7000 RON after 1 year in HCLTech.Internal trainings and certifications.*HCLTech is committed to protecting and securing the privacy and confidentiality of the Personal Data which it collects directly or indirectly from you when applying for a job at HCLTech either directly or through a third-party human resources agency.
