We’re all about personality, we have fun, and we work hard to deliver That Superdrug Feeling.📅 Here’s the exciting bit… A day includes:We’re looking for an experienced Senior Power BI Developer to become our technical authority for Power BI and help shape the future of our enterprise reporting and analytics platform.This is a technical leadership role with a strong focus on developing the capability of our BI team. Around half of your time will be spent coaching and technically mentoring our BI Developers through live solutions, helping them build confidence, improve their judgement and become more independent.You’ll remain hands-on, spending approximately 20–30% of your time personally designing and developing complex Power BI solutions. The remainder of your role will focus on governance, technical sign-off, platform ownership and stakeholder engagement.There are currently no direct reports. Instead, you’ll lead through your technical expertise, influence and coaching skills. You’ll act as the team’s senior technical escalation point and a trusted partner to the BI Manager, providing advice, technical sign-off and team cover when required.This is an excellent opportunity for a Power BI specialist who enjoys making other developers better, solving complex problems and having genuine influence over how a BI function develops.📝 Key Responsibilities:Acting as the organisation’s subject-matter expert and technical authority for Power BI.Providing day-to-day technical guidance and mentoring to BI Developers through live delivery work.Coaching colleagues through questions, demonstrations and solution reviews rather than simply giving instructions.Creating an environment where developing colleagues feel able to ask questions, test ideas and learn constructively from mistakes.Designing, developing, testing and deploying complex enterprise-level dashboards, reports, semantic models and KPIs.Creating and optimising advanced DAX calculations, Power Query transformations and dimensional data models.Establishing and maintaining Power BI development standards, governance processes and best practices.Reviewing and signing off semantic models, data models, dataflows and relevant ETL designs.Conducting code, model and solution reviews and providing clear, practical feedback.Diagnosing and resolving report-performance, dataset-efficiency, refresh and platform-reliability issues.Implementing and governing row-level security and appropriate data-access controls.Supporting controlled deployment pipelines, testing and release processes.Working with cloud and on-premises data sources, Power BI dataflows and gateway connections.Partnering with Data Engineers and Architects to ensure Power BI solutions are supported by appropriate data structures and pipelines.Translating complex business requirements into secure, scalable and maintainable reporting solutions.Communicating technical recommendations, risks and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Constructively challenging requests where the proposed approach is insecure, unscalable or does not address the underlying business need.Acting as the senior technical escalation point for the team and providing technical cover for the BI Manager when required.Supporting the continued development of our Microsoft data platform and upcoming migration activity.What you’ll needAt least three years’ recent commercial experience delivering complex Power BI solutions, ideally within an enterprise environment.Advanced, hands-on knowledge of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.Advanced experience using DAX, Power Query and SQL.Strong knowledge of dimensional modelling, star-schema design and semantic models.Experience personally diagnosing and improving complex or underperforming Power BI solutions.Practical experience working with Power BI dataflows and gateway connections across cloud and on-premises data sources.Experience implementing or governing row-level security and data-access controls.Experience working with deployment pipelines, testing and controlled release processes.Sufficient knowledge of ETL and modern Microsoft data platforms to work credibly with Data Engineers and contribute to technical-design decisions.Proven experience mentoring, coaching or technically leading less-experienced BI Developers.Experience establishing or improving development standards and governance processes.Strong stakeholder-management, communication and problem-solving skills.The confidence to influence technical decisions and constructively challenge stakeholders without relying on formal management authority.The ability to remain hands-on while supporting the development of others and providing wider technical leadership.Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory or related Azure data services would be advantageous.About youYou’re an experienced Power BI specialist who combines deep technical knowledge with a patient, practical and collaborative approach.You enjoy remaining hands-on, but you’re equally motivated by helping other developers become more confident and capable.
