Senior Power System Studies Engineer, EMT Studies

We’re looking for a Senior Power Studies Engineer to join our T&D Engineering and Consulting team.In this role, you’ll independently lead complex modeling, analysis, and reporting for power system studies that support generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. You’ll collaborate with engineering teams, guide technical study execution, and contribute to continuous process improvement and quality assurance across every project.What You’ll DoPerform and lead studies for power flow, transient stability, short-circuit, EMT, harmonics, and techno-economics across T&D and generator applicationsBuild and refine scripts to streamline the study process, improve efficiency, and reduce reworkGuide team members in understanding technical and commercial study components, including billable hours and delivery standardsApply and share deep knowledge of power system rules, standards, tariffs, and first-principle-based designProtect sensitive technical and commercial data throughout transmission, computation, and storage in alignment with agreementsCoordinate project setup and closeout activities with supervisors and support staffMonitor logged hours weekly, proactively identifying risks to the project budgetFacilitate or attend meetings with prepared materials to address technical or workload concernsSubmit time reporting promptly and accurately to support payroll and accounting teamsCommunicate consistently with leadership on priorities, goals, and open itemsThe Experience We’re Looking For5–10 years of experience performing power system studies and simulationsStrong skills in team leadership, delegation, and technical project oversightFamiliarity with utility standards, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practicesProven ability to troubleshoot problems using a mix of technical judgment and software toolsProficient in math operations relevant to power systems and engineering reportsSkilled in Microsoft Excel for generating tables and visuals for technical documentationStrong reading comprehension and written communication for reports, procedures, and manualsCapable of presenting findings in Microsoft PowerPoint and writing reports in WordEffective interpersonal and negotiation skills with cross-functional teams and clientsAdditional RequirementsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related fieldHigh school diploma or GEDValid driver’s license with a clean driving recordMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug testsAbility to travel up to 25% for meetings or field visits as neededAble to sit for long periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform office-related physical tasksProficiency in English is required for speaking, reading, writing, and computer useBonus Points ForMaster’s or Doctorate in Electrical EngineeringEngineer-in-Training certification or pursuit of PE licensureExperience with advanced simulation tools and power system software platformsWhy Join RMS EnergyWe’re not just another power services company.
