We are a small team obsessed with the difference between it works and it feels right. This is the first design hire - you shape the visual language of a new category from scratch, working directly with the CTO.What you'll doAs Founding Product Designer, you own the interface of Paperbase end to end: information architecture, interaction, visual design, and the emotional experience of the product. You design for humans and AI agents in one shared workspace - provenance, trust, and multiplayer handoffs - and you build the design system that keeps Paperbase coherent across every deployment.ResponsibilitiesOwn the product and interaction design of Paperbase across web and desktopDesign for human-AI collaboration: shared context, provenance, trust signals, and multiplayer handoffsBuild and maintain the design system that keeps Paperbase feeling like one product across every deploymentPartner closely with the CTO on architecture-level design decisions - you understand the cost of your choicesShip fast: designs move from concept to implementation in days, not quartersSet the visual language of a new categoryMinimum Qualifications3 to 5 years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of shipped workReal interaction depth - information architecture, flows, states, and feedback loops - not just visual polishSystems thinking: you reason about the product beneath the pixelsProficiency in standard design tools (Figma or equivalent)Strong communication - you can articulate design decisions clearlyPreferred QualificationsExperience designing AI products, developer tools, or enterprise softwareExperience building design systemsExperience designing collaboration or multi-user productsFrontend understanding (HTML/CSS or prototyping) so designs translate to implementationStartup or high-growth environment experienceApplicant Safety Policy: Fraud and Third-Party RecruitersTo protect you from recruitment scams, please be aware that Paperbase will never ask for bank details, sensitive ID numbers (i.e. passport), or any form of payment during the application or interview process.
