Role summaryWe are hiring a Senior Product Designer to take end-to-end ownership of product areas across our accounting, tax and property software. You will own whole modules rather than individual screens: shaping the problem, designing the flows, governing the design system, and staying with the work through build verification until it ships correctly. This is a hands-on senior role with real scope. You will set the quality bar for a small design team, mentor mid-level and junior designers, and be trusted by UK partners as the person who can turn a dense regulatory requirement into an interface that a busy accountant can use without training. You will use Claude and other AI tools every day as part of a disciplined design process. We expect fluency and we expect scepticism.Key duties and responsibilitiesProduct and interaction design•    Own the design of complete product areas from discovery through to shipped build•    Turn business requirement documents, compliance procedures and partner input into information architecture, flows, wireframes and high-fidelity design.•    Design complex, data-dense interfaces: multi-step wizards, conditional forms, records with many related entities, tables with filtering and bulk actions, dashboards, and permission-dependent views.•    Specify every state — empty, loading, partial, error, blocked, expired, permission-denied and success — as part of the deliverable, not as an afterthought.•    Make and document the hard calls: what a screen does not do, what gets deferred, and what the honest count or status on a surface should be.•    Run design critique and formal design review, and present work to Design Lead for sign-off.Problem solving, pace and judgement•    Take an ambiguous or half-formed brief and turn it into a defined problem before you start drawing.•    Break large problems into slices that can be designed, reviewed and shipped independently, rather than holding everything back for one big reveal.•    Work at pace across more than one product at a time, switching context cleanly without dropping detail.•    Move quickly on reversible decisions and flag irreversible ones for review — know the difference.•    Think on your feet in live review: absorb a challenge, respond to it in the room, and propose a workable alternative rather than taking every question away.•    Unblock yourself — find the rule, ask the right person, or build a quick prototype instead of stalling the work.•    Deliver to short cycles without letting quality quietly slip; say so early when a deadline and the standard are in conflict.•    Set priorities when several things are urgent at once, and protect the team from churn caused by unclear or shifting requirements.Design system and brand•    Own and govern the design systems across the product portfolio: components, patterns, tokens, typography, colour and layout rules.•    Keep Figma libraries clean, versioned and genuinely usable by other designers and developers.•    Apply and protect brand systems across product UI, marketing and print, and work with the design lead on brand evolution.•    Write and maintain the governing design rules the team works to, and hold people to them — including yourself.Fintech, accounting and compliance domainYou do not need to be an accountant. You do need to be the kind of designer who reads the rule before drawing the screen.•    Work from written business requirement documents, standard operating procedures and compliance checklists as primary source material.•    Design flows that carry legal and regulatory consequence: anti-money-laundering gates, client due diligence, identity verification, engagement scope and liability, statutory submissions and deadlines.•    Handle money, tax and date data with discipline: GBP formatting, UK tax years, DD/MM/YYYY dates, HMRC reference formats, rounding and reconciliation states.•    Design for audit: every consequential action needs a clear trail, a reversible path where the rules allow one, and an honest state where they do not.•    Know when a design question is actually a compliance question, and escalate it to the responsible partner or adviser instead of inventing an answer.•    Own the translation layer between regulation and interface: decompose an ambiguous statutory or AML requirement into a flow, a data model implication and a set of states, then defend that decomposition in formal review.AI-assisted design — how we actually workAI tooling is part of the job, not a bonus. Claude is our primary tool and the one you will use most; we also use other tools where they fit. We are not looking for someone who pastes a prompt and ships the output — we are looking for someone who uses AI to move faster and then applies real design judgement to what comes back.Day-to-day AI use you will be expected to be fluent in•    Claude for design reasoning: interrogating requirements, stress-testing flows, generating state matrices and edge-case lists, drafting acceptance criteria and design rationale.•    Claude for rapid prototyping: producing working HTML and React prototypes from a brief, then iterating on them in small, targeted passes rather than one large rewrite.•    Claude Design and Figma AI features for exploring layout, copy and component variants at speed.•    Claude Code for inspecting a prototype bundle, verifying that what was built matches what was specified, and generating precise remediation instructions for developers.•    Claude with connected tools (Figma, Google Drive, Microsoft 365 and similar) to pull real requirements and assets into the working session instead of retyping them.•    AI-assisted design QA: rating a build against a written rubric, cross-referencing a BRD against a delivered screen, and producing a findings tracker.•    Content and microcopy drafting in UK English, then editing it down to something a client would actually read.Quality, accessibility and build verification•    Design to WCAG 2.2 AA as a baseline: contrast, focus order, keyboard operability, target sizes, labelling and error identification.•    Audit delivered builds against the specification and the accessibility standard, and produce structured, prioritised findings rather than loose comments.•    Run remediation cycles with developers until findings are closed, and keep a visible tracker of what is open.•    Verify that what was built matches what was specified — including logic, states and copy, not just visual fidelity.Leadership and collaboration•    Mentor mid-level and junior designers: set direction, review their work honestly, and grow their judgement rather than just correcting their files.•    Deputise for the design lead in reviews and stakeholder sessions when needed.•    Work daily with the technical architect, business analysts, developers and compliance colleagues; hand over work in a form developers can build from without guessing.•    Contribute to sprint planning and delivery tracking, and be realistic about what design can land in a cycle.•    Flag anything touching regulated advice, AML escalation or statutory obligation to the responsible partner rather than resolving it in design.Essential requirements•    5+ years designing digital products, with at least 2 years on B2B or SaaS products.•    Demonstrable ownership of a design system or a multi-module product, end to end.•    A portfolio showing dense, functional interface work with the reasoning visible. Consumer-only or marketing-only portfolios will not be shortlisted.•    Expert Figma: auto-layout, variables, components and variants, tokens, library management, prototyping.•    Strong interaction design and information architecture across complex, rules-driven flows.•    Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA and how to test against it.•    Practical daily use of AI tools in design work, with Claude preferred, and a clear point of view on where they help and where they do not.•    Written English strong enough to author specifications, design rationale and client-facing microcopy for a UK audience.•    Comfortable defending decisions in formal review with senior stakeholders, and changing your mind when the argument is better.•    Available for meaningful overlap with UK working hours.Desirable•    Fintech, accounting, tax, legal or other regulated-industry software experience.•    Familiarity with UK tax and accounting concepts, or evident appetite to learn them properly.•    Design tokens implemented in code; comfort reading HTML, CSS and component code.•    Experience with AI-assisted prototyping or agentic coding tools such as Claude Code.•    Service design, content design or technical writing background.•    Line management or formal mentoring experience. What you get from working with usThe work itself•    Real ownership. Small team, wide scope, and your decisions visibly shape products used daily by UK accounting practices and their clients.•    Genuinely hard design problems — regulated, rules-driven, information-dense. This is the kind of work that makes you materially better as a designer.•    Direct access to UK partners, chartered accountants and tax advisers. You hear the requirement from the source, not third-hand.•    Multiple products, not one screen for three years: practice management, MTD tax software, client portals and brand work. How we work•    Full access to Claude and the wider AI toolchain, paid for, plus the time and encouragement to get properly good with it.•    A design function that is taken seriously — designers sit in architecture and requirements discussions, not at the end of the queue.•    Honest, structured critique and written review rubrics, so you always know what "good" means and where you stand.•    Mentorship from an experienced design lead, and a documented development plan reviewed twice a year.
