Senior Product Development Engineer – LV/MV Switchgear & MV Capacitor Banks

Senior Product Development Engineer is responsible to plan, develop and complete the prototype, type test and document all the entire process. Also responsible to collaborate with principal suppliers and with entire internal functions such as design, procurement and production to ensure the completion of manufacturing and type tests of new products as per targeted timeline. This strategic role to ensure timely delivery of new products that are essential to align business growth through product expansions. Key focus areas also include proper roll-out plan, ensuring new products are within budget, and to the highest quality standard.Product Development & DesignLead the development of LV switchgear assemblies, MV switchgear panels, and MV capacitor bank systems.Design and optimize products for GCC utility, industrial, infrastructure, oil & gas, and commercial applications.Develop product architectures, electrical schematics, GA drawings, single-line diagrams, and BOMs.Select and evaluate components including:Circuit breakersContactorsProtection relaysInstrument transformersCapacitor unitsReactorsBusbar systemsControl and monitoring equipmentEnsure product designs are scalable, modular, maintainable, and cost-effective.Standards & ComplianceEnsure compliance with relevant standards including:IEC 61439 (LV Switchgear)IEC 62271 Series (MV Switchgear)IEC 60871 (Power Capacitors)IEC 61921 (Power Factor Correction Equipment)IEC 60076IEC 60255IEC 60529Interpret and implement utility specifications from GCC authorities and major clients.Coordinate type testing and product certification with accredited laboratories.Engineering AnalysisPerform:Short-circuit withstand calculationsBusbar sizing calculationsThermal performance studiesDielectric coordination studiesCapacitor bank sizing and harmonic analysisArc flash and protection coordination assessmentsReview and validate engineering calculations and design documentationTesting & ValidationPlan and witness:Type testsRoutine testsFAT (Factory Acceptance Tests)Site-related engineering supportAnalyze test results and implement design improvements.Coordinate certification programs with third-party testing laboratories.Manufacturing & IndustrializationSupport production teams during prototype and pilot manufacturing.Improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency.Work closely with procurement to optimize sourcing and component standardization.Lead value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.Technical SupportProvide technical support to sales and proposal teams.Review customer specifications and prepare technical compliance statements.Participate in technical meetings with consultants, utilities, EPC contractors, and end users.Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of field issues.Project & Team LeadershipLead multidisciplinary product development projects.Mentor junior engineers and design teams.Manage development schedules, risks, and deliverables.QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.Master's Degree in Power Systems or Electrical Engineering is an advantage.Experience8–10years of experience in LV/MV switchgear design and product development.Proven experience in developing:LV SwitchboardsMCCsMV SwitchgearMV Capacitor Bank PanelsPower Factor Correction SystemsKnowledge of IEC standards and type-testing requirements.Product innovation and developmentElectrical engineering expertiseAnalytical problem-solvingLeadership and mentoringCross-functional collaborationProject managementCommercial awarenessTechnical documentation and reportingCustomer-focused mindset
