Apply & track with Apply EdgeThe OpportunityOur client is a rapidly growing renewable fuels company preparing to enter the European market, with a focus on hydrogen and its derivatives.As part of its European expansion, the company is looking to appoint a Senior Research Analyst – Hydrogen & Derivatives to provide high-quality market intelligence, regulatory analysis and commercial insights to support the company's growth strategy and business development activities across Europe.This is a highly analytical role combining market research, regulatory intelligence, data analysis and commercial support. The successful candidate will become a key source of knowledge on the European renewable fuels landscape, helping the commercial team identify opportunities, understand market dynamics and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.Key ResponsibilitiesMarket Research & AnalysisConduct in-depth market research and competitive intelligence across the European hydrogen and renewable fuels markets.Monitor developments across hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives, including e-fuels, e-methanol, e-ammonia and other renewable fuels.Analyse market fundamentals including supply and demand, production capacity, projects, infrastructure, pricing, offtake agreements and market participants.Track relevant companies, projects, investors, producers, developers, off-takers and other key stakeholders across European markets.Develop and maintain market databases, competitor intelligence and sector dashboards.Identify emerging trends, business models and commercial opportunities within the European renewable fuels ecosystem.Prepare market assessments to support country, product and customer prioritisation.Regulatory & Policy IntelligenceMonitor and analyse European and national regulatory developments affecting renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.Develop strong expertise in the regulatory framework governing renewable fuels, including RFNBOs, RED III, FuelEU Maritime, ReFuelEU Aviation and related delegated acts and implementing legislation.Assess the potential commercial impact of regulatory changes on different products, markets and business models.Monitor developments relating to Guarantees of Origin, certification, sustainability criteria, additionality, temporal and geographical correlation, carbon accounting and traceability.Translate complex regulatory developments into clear and actionable insights for commercial and management teams.Monitor relevant policy developments at both EU and national level across priority European markets.Commercial SupportProvide the commercial team with market intelligence, data and analysis to support business development and customer discussions.Conduct research on prospective customers, partners, suppliers and other strategic counterparties.Support the preparation of commercial presentations, market studies, business cases and investment materials.Develop analyses to support the evaluation of potential projects, partnerships and offtake opportunities.Prepare company and market profiles, competitor analyses and customer intelligence.Support commercial teams before key meetings by providing relevant market, regulatory and counterparty intelligence.Turn research findings into concise commercial recommendations and decision-support materials.Strategic AnalysisContribute to the development of the company's European market entry strategy.Analyse the attractiveness of different European markets, products and applications.Develop scenarios around market development, regulation, pricing and competitive dynamics.Support management with data-driven insights on market opportunities and risks.Build a strong network of external information sources, industry associations, consultants, regulators and market participants.Candidate ProfileWe are looking for a highly analytical professional with a strong interest in hydrogen, renewable fuels and the European energy transition, combining excellent research capabilities with a commercial mindset.5+ years of experience in research, market intelligence, strategy, consulting, energy analysis, business development or a related field.Strong understanding of the European hydrogen and renewable fuels ecosystem.Solid knowledge of relevant European regulatory frameworks, particularly: RFNBOs, RED III, FuelEU Maritime, ReFuelEU AviationDemonstrated ability to conduct primary and secondary research and analyse complex information from multiple sources.Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, with the ability to work with market data and build robust analyses.Experience translating complex technical or regulatory information into clear business implications.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Excellent command of English; additional European languages are a plus.
