Senior SAP Systems Engineer - AI Integration

6 month initial contractA leading technology organisation is looking for a Senior SAP Systems Engineer to help transform a complex enterprise SAP landscape into an intelligent, AI-accessible platform.This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of SAP, enterprise architecture and artificial intelligence, helping design the systems that enable AI agents to securely interact with core enterprise processes.You will play a key role in designing and implementing the SAP Data Access Layer (DAL), enabling AI agents to access live enterprise data and execute controlled transactions across finance, procurement, supply chain and HR environments.Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect secure APIs, OData services and integration patterns connecting AI agents with SAP systems.Design and develop the SAP Data Access Layer across SAP S/4HANA, SAP Ariba and SAP BTP.Translate complex business processes such as Procure-to-Pay and Record-to-Report into machine-executable workflows.Integrate SAP data and business logic with AI and machine learning platforms.Work across SAP Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain and HR environments.Develop and expose SAP functionality through APIs, BAPIs, CDS Views and other integration technologies.Design secure role-based access controls for AI-driven SAP interactions.Ensure AI-initiated actions are auditable, traceable and compliant with enterprise governance requirements.Optimise CDS Views and HANA data structures to support AI forecasting and high-frequency data access.Support data extraction and integration with external data lakes and AI platforms.Evaluate integration approaches, including SAP Joule and custom AI-agent solutions.Establish best practices and governance principles for AI-to-SAP interaction.Act as a bridge between SAP engineers, data scientists and machine learning engineers.Technical Requirements7+ years of experience in SAP Systems Engineering, SAP Architecture or complex SAP integration.Expert knowledge of SAP S/4HANA, SAP Ariba and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).Strong experience with SAP CAP, OData, BAPIs and SAP Integration Suite (CPI/PI/PO).Strong technical knowledge of ABAP, CDS Views and HANA SQLScript.Experience extracting and integrating SAP data with external data lakes, including SAP Datasphere or BW/4HANA.Strong technical and functional expertise in at least two of:FI/COMMAribaExperience exposing SAP functionality to non-SAP environments, including Python or Node.js.Strong understanding of RESTful API design and enterprise integration architecture.Experience & QualificationsExperience delivering complex integration projects within large-scale enterprise environments.Experience in manufacturing, defence or public sector environments is highly desirable.Understanding of complex Bill of Materials (BOM) structures and SAP Project Systems is advantageous.Ability to translate complex SAP concepts into practical solutions for data scientists and ML engineers.Strong strategic thinking and the ability to assess the feasibility of AI use cases within existing SAP environments.Why Join?Most SAP roles focus on maintaining the system of record.This role is about helping transform it into a system of intelligence.You will help define how AI agents interact with the enterprise systems at the core of a major AI initiative, working across SAP, AI and autonomous enterprise workflows.If you are an experienced SAP Engineer or Architect with a passion for modern integration and AI, this is an opportunity to work on some of the most forward-looking enterprise technology challenges in the region.
